Carl Bernstein warned President Trump may throw the election to the House of Representatives to decide in an attempt to hold onto office on CNN Monday night.
"We need a political and cultural protector in this country between now and Election Day from the president of the United States and his recklessness," Bernstein demanded.
"Everything is about the base, as he calls it, and getting the base to somehow re-elect him or get him close enough to reelection that he can then put into authoritarian practice, some kind of mechanism that will allow him to hold on to power, perhaps throw the election into the House of Representatives, which indeed is being talked about in the White House," Bernstein said.

CARL BERNSTEIN: I think we have to recognize that we have a national emergency unlike anything in our history. That national emergency is that we have a president of the United States who is demonstrably unfit, incompetent, not honest, and not capable of dealing with this horrible situation. We need a political and cultural protector in this country between now and Election Day from the president of the United States and his recklessness. People are dead because of his recklessness.
We need the political system to respond, which means Republicans particularly, because the Republicans on Capitol Hill as well as those who left the White House, they know he is not a stable individual. They have told dozens of people, they believe the president of the United States is out of control, that he is not fit to be the president of the United States.
We need to be protected from this president so that we can be protected from COVID. ...

Well, if enough states can’t certify their electoral votes, there’s going to be a big argument over whether you need a majority of the total available, or only a majority of the total that got certified.
If the former, the constitution, not the white house, sends the election to the house, where the supposedly new seated house will vote.
Note though that the house races will be in turmoil. And you know who gets to decide which election results for house races get recognized? The LAST CONGRESS, the one rubber-stamped by Pelosi.
All Pelosi needs to do is have her team reject as “too close to call” a dozen republican seats, and then the democrats will have the majority they need to seat their candidate.
Unless Trump can manage to pull off a pretty good lead in enough states, I fear this election will in fact be stolen by democrats, and the media will support it.
“Trump would lose in the house
What are they smoking?”
Read the 12th Amendment
I think we control 25, not 26, and we need 26.
But remember, it will be the new congress, and it is the current congress that starts that process of who gets seated.
They set the standard in 2018, when they refused to recognize the winner in one republican race, eventually forcing a re-election, which was won easily by the replacement republican.
It wouldn’t take much for Pelosi to hold off enough republican seats being seated to throw the election to Biden.
Trump has driven the left nuts.
What are you smoking? Trump wins if the Election goes to the House.
For President, the House delegations from each State vote as a bloc, each State gets one vote.
Republicans control 26 State blocs, Democrats 23 States, 1 State tied (Pennsylvania)

Someone else here just gave me the opposite answer.
Well, I would have to say, whoever gave you the opposite answer may not know how it works.
The newly elected Congress will be sworn in on January 3, 2021. The electoral votes are scheduled to be opened and counted and certified by Congress on January 6, 2021. That is the basis for my saying that the newly elected Congress would deal with a presidential election, if they need to deal with it. The retiring or defeated members of the old Congress are gone by the time the electoral votes are counted.
A Republican president throwing an election to a Democrat-majority HOR? In what universe does that make sense?
Edit the same statement to apply to blue-state governors:
We need political and cultural protectors in these states between now and the next round of rioting caused by their recklessness. People are dead and businesses destroyed because of their recklessness.
Thanks. So there is a possibility that (1) Republicans could re-take the House, or (2) the Republican majority of 26 states could shrink to 25 or 24. If it were 25, we’d really have an interesting problem! lol
The only "national emergency' is men like Bernstein hold jobs that allow them to call themselves 'journalists'.
Thank you for the correction.
In 1876 it was total available.
Since the entire House is up for reelection, there will be no House on January 3 to select a Speaker. More likely, the Republican states that do not use mail-in ballots will have ordinary elections and send their Representative to the House. It will be the Democrat states that can't count and certify their elections that will have vacancies in the House. The Republican majority of those present will choose their Speaker.
In the Senate, only one-third of the seats are up for election. If those same blue states can't certify a Senator, the governor MUST appoint a replacement to fill the vacancy because Article V requires "equal suffrage in the Senate."
As for the President, the 12th amendment says "The person having the greatest Number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed" shall become President. Blue states that cannot certify their Electors will not count towards the 270 to win. If 20 EV Illinois cannot count their votes, then the threshold drops to 260 to win, and so on with the other blue states. This will motivate blue state legislatures to hold special sessions to appoint their Electors directly, so that the President will be selected without issue.
So the Democrats will be giving up the House, but nothing else, if they follow this tactic.

So Bernstein expects the GOP to take the House.
Interesting.
IBTZ, Eeyore.
yeah... i got that already... like 10 times.
Still have my doubts though.
You’re completely wrong.
When voting for President in the House, each STATE gets one vote.
The utter flaw in the plan, is that if Trump gets 270, it doesn’t matter how much the blue states f*** up their votes.
Trump wins anyway.
