Carl Bernstein warned President Trump may throw the election to the House of Representatives to decide in an attempt to hold onto office on CNN Monday night.
"We need a political and cultural protector in this country between now and Election Day from the president of the United States and his recklessness," Bernstein demanded.
"Everything is about the base, as he calls it, and getting the base to somehow re-elect him or get him close enough to reelection that he can then put into authoritarian practice, some kind of mechanism that will allow him to hold on to power, perhaps throw the election into the House of Representatives, which indeed is being talked about in the White House," Bernstein said.

CARL BERNSTEIN: I think we have to recognize that we have a national emergency unlike anything in our history. That national emergency is that we have a president of the United States who is demonstrably unfit, incompetent, not honest, and not capable of dealing with this horrible situation. We need a political and cultural protector in this country between now and Election Day from the president of the United States and his recklessness. People are dead because of his recklessness.
We need the political system to respond, which means Republicans particularly, because the Republicans on Capitol Hill as well as those who left the White House, they know he is not a stable individual. They have told dozens of people, they believe the president of the United States is out of control, that he is not fit to be the president of the United States.
We need to be protected from this president so that we can be protected from COVID. ...

I would guess the state delegation would vote amongst themselves to determine who they would collectively award their state’s vote to.
Oh wow! I did not know that.
Yes, referring to the possibility that if the electoral college has some competing slates of electors from several States such that no candidate - Trump, Biden or West has the required 270 electoral vote majority, then the contest moves to the House of Representatives to determine the next President. The Senate would determine the Vice-President.
The Current 116th Congress is 232D, 198R, 1L, 4 vacancies. However, to choose a President the House votes by State delegation with one vote each (D.C. Has no vote) which means that an absolute majority of 26 votes out of the 50 available is required to elect a President. The current State delegation breakdown is 26R, 22D, 2Tied. If the 116th House had to vote the Republicans could re-elect President Trump as they have the required number of Republican States even though they are outnumbered in the number of House members.
However, it is not the 116th Congress that performs any electoral college non-majority situation, but rather the 117th Congress to be elected November 3rd 2020. I doubt that the Republican Party will drop below the current 26 State delegations it now controls in the next election.
So to repeat, when it comes to the future House possibly electing the next President, the Republican Party does indeed control the House of Representatives.

Go back and read the thread.
It’s been explained a dozen times.
Now ya do!
Actually that’s not how it works. Each state delegation gets one vote. Last I looked, it is close to a tie, if you assume that the reps vote party line.
But is it the 2018 Congress the votes, Or the new 2020 Congress?
Supposing a state has only two reps and they voting different? There has to be a set of rules governing this, or like impeachment, before that actual vote they would have to vote on the rules. Would be another mess. Praying we dont find ourselves going down this road.
“If the election goes to the House, each state gets one vote.”
But the House is still controlled by the Dems. Now, when it comes to the House vote, they only need 1 member from each state, for at least 2/3 of the states to get a quorum before they can hold the vote. That means if the Dems held a session and just invited only 1 Democratic rep from each Republican state and “forgot” to invite Republican reps, then they would still have a quorum, and could still hold a legitimate vote, even with no Republicans present.
Or do you think the Dems are too principled to play games like that?
If they tie, the state casts a blank ballot. I think the rules require 26 state vote for a candidate to win. Each rep votes their conscience.
2018
Bernstein is just another 60’s throwback who can’t stop drinking the bong water.
They’re not too principled.
But I think even they realize that’s a good way to get themselves DRT.
Don’t know how they’d resolve ties could be a problem.
>>> Its about time the GOP thought outside the box. We will never win again if we dont.
Conservatives are the only ones together with president Trump who fight. Your typical GOP representatives/politicians don’t think or act like us, and they don’t have any sense about the seriousness of the situation.
These GOPers waggle their tails and drool when Dems say they like them and pet them on the heads.
Inconclusive House selection of president means Speaker of the House would become Acting President on January 20.
interesting stuff... may end up going there if the rats get their way with mail-ins.
I think they are doing every thing they can to make a fair election impossible.
Still a ludicrous contention. Not going to happen. Perhaps if long delays occur in the counting of votes by some states, then it may be thrown to Congress, but I doubt if it will be by the President. 8>)
The newly sworn in House of Representatives breaks the tie. But here is the interesting part. Each state gets only one vote. The GOP controls more state houses than the RATS, but who knows how that would change in November’s election.
It would be the newly-elected 2020 Congress that would vote if a presidential election were in the House of Representatives.
