HOUSTON — It wasn’t your typical Trump campaign rally.
Instead of red Make America Great Again hats, there were turbans and Islamic caps. Women in traditional Indian garb danced to bhangra drums. And tens of thousands of cheering Indian Americans chanted “USA!” and snapped photos.
President Donald Trump appeared at a cavernous football stadium on Sunday alongside Narendra Modi, the popular prime minister of India, who attracted a crowd of 50,000 from across the U.S. to what was touted as the largest event in the country for a leader of a foreign nation.
“You have never had a better friend as president than President Donald Trump,” Trump said as the crowd roared with approval. “We thank you. We love you. I want you to know my administration is fighting for you each and every day.”
Trump is hoping to appeal to Indian American voters, a growing political force in the U.S., with his business-friendly agenda — especially the 2017 tax cuts — as well as his tough talk on terrorism and his decision to show up at the rally even though the ethnic group has generally backed Democrats.
“It’s giving a message to the Indian community that Trump is a big friend of India,” said Rupesh Srivastava, a Michigan businessman and founding member of the Republican Hindu Coalition. “That message will definitely motivate people.”

Most of those 50,000 people in that stadium today are American citizens so how is slamming them “pro-American?”

Very true. I am amazed that in spite of the advantage of having American parents, English proficiency, and cultural familiarity, majority of doctoral degrees in STEM are awarded to foreign students. Why? Where are the Americans?

I was told this by an Indian: ( paraphrase ) Indians are very racial, believe in the caste system and very corrupt. This is why I came to the USA to get away from it. Now the corruption is following me.

We are building a new home here in the DFW, almost everyone I’ve seen in the neighborhood seems to be from India. And these are not cheap houses, my hunch is that since they tend to have their extended families with them they want the big houses.

They are not skilled, at least in IT or Software Engineering. They are highly skilled at lying, cheating and scamming their way through Skype interview and coding exams with others sitting the interview in place of them. There is a whole internet-based industry in based in India to have them pass these interviews.
They are highly skilled at racism and nepotism. Once in a hiring position, only those from their own religion, caste and region of India gets hired.
Trump got 7% last time, maybe he is shooting for 8%.

Um. I have been in IT since 1990 so I kind DO know what I am talking about. It went form almost all white and male to about 80% Asian since then.
It’s probably because the American people are so uninformed about what Lee and Cruz have up their sleeve.
Main reason for that is it is far more difficult to acquire permanent resident visa (also known as green card) than a H1-B visa which is a temporary visa and it does not give you automatic route to green card which is required precursor towards citizenship. The wait is too long for green cards.
Current immigrants are overwhelming majority sponsored by a relative US citizen, with no tests for skills, English proficiency or wealth brought along. PDJT wants to change that system to skill based immigrants.
They make more money than any other ethnic group, period.

I’ve worked with a lot of Indians over time, I’ve gotten along with every one of them.
My daughter has several Indian friends, we treat them like family.
So I really can’t complain, could do a lot worse.
