'He has the power to shape the court for a generation'
Chief Justice John Roberts and retired Justice Anthony Kennedy conducted the swearing-in for Justice Brett Kavanaugh on Saturday.
Kavanaugh’s addition to the Supreme Court comes after a tumultuous, monthslong confirmation process.
Sacramento political analyst Steve Swatt weighed in on the impact of Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
Q: How much is partisan politics affecting the Supreme Court?
Swatt: That’s what a lot of people are concerned about, that the politics will in fact saturate the court. What is interesting is that in Brett Kavanaugh, the court now has a reliable staunch conservative replacing a moderate conservative, Anthony Kennedy. And so what that means is that because of Kavanaugh’s age and because of the fact that he is now a reliable fifth vote on the court, that he has the power to shape the court for a generation.
Q: What do you expect Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court voting record to look like?
Swatt: You never know, because the court throughout history has seen a number of justices vote different than people expected. … But based on his writings, based on his court decisions, based on his public statements, I think you have to assume that he will be a staunch conservative and the reliable fifth vote for conservatives on that court.
Q: Which issues do you think Kavanaugh will most impact?
Swatt: The resistance, or the non-conservatives, are most fearful that the court will lurch rightward in terms of gay rights, campaign finance, abortion certainly, perhaps affirmative action, unions, things like that.
Q: What next?
Swatt: I’m interested to see how this will affect the midterm elections, because the food fight over Brett Kavanaugh seems to have energized Trump’s base, which seemed lethargic for quite a while. And it energized that base one month before the midterm elections, when the Democrats are hoping to take back the House. But it also has energized the resistance. And so the key, of course, will be which side does the best job of turning out its voters on Election Day. Traditionally, Republicans have done a better job at that. But we’ll have to see.
Our domestic Enemies are already expressing the need to expand the court from nine to eleven Justices. Whoopeeeeee and we’re off..... again.
So they’re going all the way back to FDR for ideas?

A young person, like Ann Coulter or even younger for next justice?
PDJT’s next appointment to the court should be a conservative constitutionalist African American woman. Watch the leftist heads explode. Wouldn’t hurt if she’s a lesbian either. I don’t really care, as long as she follows the law and the constitution.
And he likes to reach across the divide to make the lefties happy on occasion.
Look for Roberts to become even less Conservative at a higher rate than his current trajectory.
Coulter and Kavanaugh are close to the same age.

Roberts is compromised. I am convinced they have something big on him. He was going against the ACA and did so in the test vote. The Rat judges tipped off Obongo and they went to work. He totally reversed course and even found a way to save it. He also screwed AZ when they tried to enforce the immigration laws. Both of these damaged the nation beyond calculation.

Right after his reelection I would hope that President Trump floats the idea of packing the court before the leftists do it, gets the expected rabbit reaction from the left, and then says “You know what, I agree them. Packing the Supreme Court is a bad idea.”
That is because including justices from say, 1900 on, would show how insanely leftist the court became after FDR.
I expect the way the jusitices were graded was based on lefist definitions of "left" and "right".

Just someone correct me if I’m wrong with the following statement: Brett was the most middle of the road jurist on Trump’s nominations list that he released prior to his becoming president.
So, what, that’s the new ‘right wing’? Anyone to the right of him is now an extremist?
What the hell are Democrats going to do when Trump nominates a replacement for Ginsberg? Mind you, every other candidate on Trump’s list is more conservative than the most recently sworn in justice.

He’s old enough to make the connection the between Sacramento and Earl Warren, I hope... The aim then was so much different, wasn’t it? People forget - goose/gander!! Don’t these sorts realize how stupid they sound when they accuse the “other side” of wanting something different? Their side doesn’t, right? Why don’t they just shut up and admit both sides have their wants and wishes?
But they just want him on the court to:
