A third Senate Democrat has announced his intention to vote for Judge Neil Gorsuch, President Trump's Supreme Court nominee.
"After meeting with Judge Gorsuch, conducting a thorough review of his record, and closely following his hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, I believe that he is a qualified jurist who will base his decisions on his understanding of the law and is well-respected among his peers," Indiana Sen. Joe Donnelly said in a statement.
Donnelly joins Democratic colleagues Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, who both pledged last month to vote to confirm Gorsuch, slated to take the seat held by Justice Antonin Scalia, who died in February 2016.
Both Donnelly and Heitkamp bemoaned the fact that Judge Merrick Garland, President Obama's nominee to replace Scalia, never got an up-or-down vote.
"I was deeply disappointed by the way the most recent Supreme Court nominee, Judge Garland, was treated by the Senate, but as Senator, I can only vote on the nominee that comes to the Senate floor," Donnelley said....

Noting that Trump is nominating somebody that he cannot personally fire, please consider the following about Gorsuch.
If Gorsuch turns out to be a Trojan Horse liberal, then the uniparty Congress wont question his decisions any more than they did lawless Obamas unconstitutional actions imo.
And if such is the case, then patriots will need to make sure that there are 68 patriot senators after the 18 elections so there is some hope of getting him and other activist justices off the bench.
One more time:
The filibuster is CONSERVATIVE.
The Constitution says NOTHING about how the Senate should conduct votes. It specifies votes for impeachment and treaties but nothing else. A liberal Senate could vote so rules say that 35 votes passes bills and nominees. Liberalism favors rapid change and that would be the way to get rapid change. Conservatism favors slow change and 60 votes is already in the rules to achieve that.
Why would you want to do such a non conservative thing to a powerful conservative tool like the filibuster so you can get a nominee put on the court when you have no idea if he’ll remain conservative is essentially insane.
The filibuster is conservative. It prevents rapid change.
You can dream all you want, but that just will not happen.
That’s right! It only takes 2 - a McCain and a Graham - for the media to proclaim bipartisanship!
what if....the RATs SAY they will vote for Gorsuch, but have no intention of doing it.
How would McConnell know ? If he starts the vote and finds out he’s being sandbagged, can he cancel the vote ?
Can he make all the RATs vote first ?
He knows he has no chance at re-election if he continues to be a Chuckie doll.
Be careful what you wish for. That would work against us as well.
Not really, the Republicans routinely rubber stamp extreme living Constitution Justices. See McCain, Graham, etc., vote for Sotomayor, Kagan, etc.
Keeping the filibuster means in practice that the Democrats use it, while Republicans don’t because enough Republicans vote with them.
You can bet that the Dems will kill the filibuster the next time they get a majority and kill it if they need to.
They did it once before, so they started the nuclear war. Since the nuclear option going to happen anyway, the Republicans ought to use it to at least get something out of it before then.
Let's see what Gillibrand does. I can't believe she's stupid enough to go for the filibuster.
She's on the way up...Schumer's on the way down.
I think a few will not be present. I believe the rule is 2/3s of those present.
“Still 5 short thank goodness.”
The dimoKKKRATS still have room for 4 more to vote for Gorsuch.
“I still dont think the demented dems will be fool enough to filibuster.”
They will not need to if Mr. Turtlehead remains true to GOPe’s spineless form and capitulates.
If the Senate Majority Leader didn't capitulate on the Garland nomination,he's not going to do so here either...
You hope ... the first was easy, this is not.
Count down to capitulation: 10 ... 9 ...
Yes, they will. Whether they can gather 41 votes to maintain it, I have no idea.
Let’s say, for a bit, then cancel.
So long as they don’t make it to 60.
Nuke or bust!
“So long as they dont make it to 60.
Nuke or bust!”
You are correct in that is the game the dimoKKKRATS are playing. I would be very surprised if enough dimoKKKRATS cross over to make 60 votes to confirm Gorsuch.
Leahy has said he will not filibuster Gorsuch.
They will never kill it if they attain a majority. They will change the rules to make everything a simple majority vote and ram everything thru they can. They believe the rapidly changing demographics of the US fueled by mass immigration and minority birthrates will make them the permeanent majority within a decade.
