Trump Meets With Former GOP Rival Ted Cruz
ABC News ^ | July 7, 2016 | Jordyn Phelps, Ben Siegel and John Santucci

Donald Trump met with Sen. Ted Cruz on Capitol Hill Thursday -- the first meeting between the two former bitter campaign rivals since Cruz suspended his presidential campaign.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus was also in the meeting, according to sources. This was Trump's second trip to Capitol Hill in two months.

With less than two weeks before the Republican National Convention commences in Cleveland, Trump is looking to shore up support with the GOP's rank-and-file even as he faces backlash from members of his party. Some Republicans who are facing a tough re-election battle have chosen to skip the convention while others declined to meet with Trump this morning....

You are mentally ill, don’t understand politics at all, and need medication for your delusions.

Ok, Pollyanna.

But the real world doesn't work that way. Calling delegates, especially those with affiliation with the Tea Party, traitors is not the way to win elections that really, really matter. You remember the Tea Party right? They were out forcing change in the streets while you were sitting behind your computer posting nonsense here.

The problem is trusting Cruz to do the right thing.

You have to think like Cruz.

Cruz pondering: If I support Trump now...as the presumptive nominee, I declare myself a loser.

If I wait to do it AFTER the votes and declaration of Trump as the actual nominee, I fulfill my obligation...and can go on my way. There's nothing in that declaration that say my heart has to be in it...

Sorry...that's Cruz.

What's irrational is what YOU posted!

Cruz, the power hungry, backstabbing, puerile little brat, who is a lying POS shouldn't be anywhere even remotely close to any government position ever again.

Yes, Kennedy was stuck with Johnson, by the powers that be, at that time; however he brought a great deal, especially his voter fraud machine, to the ticket.

Bush the elder brought a lifetime of experience to Reagan, which really wasn't needed, but made the RNC happy.

What does a less than one term Senator bring to Trump? LESS THAN NOTHING AND A LOT OF TROUBLE, PLUS LOSING THE ELECTION !

Hillary could eat puppies on live TV and her brain dead followers would still be gushing “I can’t wait to say ‘Madam President’”!

Cruz needs money.

Yeah, that $8 million surplus in his campaign fund is chump change.

Cruz should have endorsed by now, but there may be more at work here. Trump is a mater showman and knows how to play the media. Having Cruz speak at the convention will bring huge ratings. A rousing endorsement from Cruz would do a great deal to stop the divided party theme the media so desperately wants. Trump's a shrewd guy. No way Ted gets time unless he's on board in an enthusiastic way.

Which Cruz never did.

Good grief, you are delusional. A LOT of Cruz supporters left him when he did that, it was too embarrassing to not notice, and I don't blame them for leaving.

I left him as a supporter in January, but wouldn't have stuck with him for one millisecond after he got to the cameras and echoed the sullied words of the MSM commentators.

Cruzers: The most delusional supporters since those of Zero in 2008. Note: I differentiate between Cruzers and Cruz supporters.

Yes, History is filled with examples of people who should never have been given time at the convention to speak - Christie, Ted Kennedy, Pat Buchanan to name a few.

That said, Trump needs a convention that shows unity, otherwise the theme will be a party divided and that ain't good for winning in November. If Trump loses and Cruz doesn't endorse him as promised, I think he's ruined. Ted may see it differently, but there is no way Trump lets him speak unless he's on board to unite the party behind Trump. IMHO, of course.

A great opening line for Trump would be,

“How do you see us working together in the future?”

Leave it to Cruz to set out some ideas, and see if any are acceptable and an improvement for Trump.

Just good old deal making.

I hope that Trump DID tell him that, or words to that effect!

Trump is slightly more blunt than I am, GOD bless him, but he is also a wheeler dealer.

Just when you thought that some people had their intermittent explosive disorder under control, the name Cruz gets mentioned.

I assume that Trump wants Cruz to go back to the Senate and work to pass legislation on which both agree (which is far more often than not). To achieve his agenda, Trump will need help in Congress. I wonder what the rabid anti-Cruzers in the Trump Camp are going to do when President Trump campaigns for Ted Cruz' re-election in 2018.

Trump and his people need to mend fences within the Republican Party, not fight the same petty wars over and over. Trump needs to focus on Hillary and not on settling petty grudges. Trump, I think, is smart enough to realize that and will make some reasonable concessions where necessary. The RINOs of the RINOs (Romney and his ilk) are irretrievable but Cruz and his supporters are not.

It could still happen.

Of course it could. Anyone who has ever watched an episode of The Apprentice knows that Trump could turn this on like a light switch.
