Ted Cruz's campaign manager, Jeff Roe, comments on what Trump can do at the Republican Convention to unite the party: Give Ted Cruz a prominent role.
JEFF ROE: I would be remiss if I didn't point out that without data, without online fund raising, they kicked my butt anyway. That's on top of us raising $93 million, which was a record (at the time) for Republican primaries, getting eight million votes.
Mr. Trump has a way to control the news cycle. I believe they will be able to put it together, but they have to get going now. The time -- it boils down to data and analytics and ground really equates to about a point and a half, 2.5, 3.5, points depending on how the Democrats are doing it. And the Democrats are doing it well, because they --the Clintons-- have won so many campaigns within the margin of error.
That typically means that the ground game made the difference. I think they [the Trump campaign] have time.
The RNC has done a good job ramping up. It's a generic model. They will need to make it Trump specific. But if you look at the polls the last few days, after what has been six and a half weeks of pretty tough stuff for the Trump people, he's still in margin error or up in places where he needs to be. In fact he's doing better than you would anticipate him doing in places like Pennsylvania and others.
I think there's time to catch up. They do have to get going very quickly...

“Giving a role to someone who would benefit by your losing, and who has shown a talent for duplicity, seems like a bad idea.”
To the contrary, throwing your full support behind Trump puts the GOPe out of its misery and is pure revenge for Cruz. I would love to see Cruz look over at McLame and says whacko bird this.
Slam down the lid and flush again.
Cruz is still looking for his payday. I don’t see him helping Trump, ever. If he does, I’ll be shocked.
I can’t see any other candidate replacing Trump as the nominee. He is on fire!
For the crazy BS stories Trump was spreading about Cruz, his wife, and his father during the primaries. If Trump won’t apologize for those, then I don’t expect Cruz would have any inclination to help Trump. He’s basically said as much already.
OK, hell I don’t know what he is. I do know he’s not an US Natural Born Citizen.
Remember when Cruz-bots were insisting that Jeff Roe was no longer a part of the Cruz campaign.
{giggle}
Cruz will be lucky if he’s allowed in the front door. Its Trump’s show he’s the nominee.
Cruz will learn soon enough that he’s been on the losing end of this battle. Therefore there’s no benefit for Trump to apologize for ANYTHING.
Good article Vet, whether Cruz is active or not will be up to Trump, Cruz could help Trump with conservatives and in doing so will set himself up for the nomination next time around if Trump happens to lose the election.
You foolish hanger ons - Cruz has thrown in with Romney - been in Utah behind closes doors with him. So shut up about how great Cruz is - he’s a snake.
Sounds like Roe is focused on analytics. Not sure the conventional ideas will work for the Trump campaign. In fact, I think the strength of the Trump campaign is it defies the conventional. This makes it extremely difficult for the Dems to target. The regular rules of political campaigns just don't apply.
nO, he hasn’t been a US citizen since birth. What planet do you live on?
Stories? What Trump said was truth - you can’t handle the truth.
The Cruz Haters will be out in force on this one.
Idiots. The best Republican Senator in decades and (some/many) Freepers think he is the devil.
Cruz could and I expect will be a huge asset for Trump. He had the best ground game in the history of the Republican Party and he should be able to hand that off to Trump. I’m all in for Trump and I expect him to win but he is a fools fool if he turns Cruz down.
Trump believes Planned Parenthood does GOOD things for Women. That is 'New York Values' not 'Conservative' values.
Did you hear Trump blame the Chicago rally violence on his tone?
I read CRUZ said something to that effect, not Trump.
I heard Trump implicate Cruz's father in the assassination of Pres. Kennedy.
At least Trump is tearing hellary a new a$$hole, Cruz probably wouldn't have done that.
I'm not against Trump, I'm on the platform, slowly moving toward the Ticket Line to fly on the Trump Express.
Why would Trump give someone who hasn’t endorsed him a “prominent” role in the convention? That seems stupid to me.
Nope. Cruz would frag Trump in a Canadian second. Steer clear Donald, steer clear.
You say he hasn’t been a US citizen since birth.
When was he naturalized? When did he go through the naturalization process? When was his naturalization ceremony? When, precisely, did he become a US citizen?
Think, Catsrus. Think for yourself.
He is a US citizen. And has been since birth.
There. Now you’re informed.
