Ever since they became the two leading candidates for the Republican presidential nomination last fall, there was speculation that perhaps U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and businessman Donald Trump could form an anti-establishment "dream team" for the November general election.
Just hours before the first returns came in, proving that polls were right the GOP front-runner would have another big night, the Texas senator put any talk of a Trump-Cruz ticket to bed. Appearing on the nationally syndicated "Hugh Hewitt Show," Cruz said he had "zero interest" in being Trump's running mate.
"Donald Trump loses to Hillary, and the answer, as you know, Hugh, a lot of folks in the Washington establishment, they're having fevered dreams right now of wanting a brokered convention," he said. "We're going to beat Donald Trump. We're going to beat him for 1,237 delegates. If you want to beat him, you've got to beat him at the ballot box. And the only candidate that can do so is us."
On the off chance that Cruz doesn't get to 1,237 delegates before the national convention, Hewitt then asked if it would be appropriate for him to take the nomination if Trump had more delegates, but fewer than the majority needed to win. The senator then explained the difference between a brokered convention and a contested convention.
"A brokered convention is the convention is deadlocked, and the Washington dealmakers parachute in their white horse salvation who wasn't on the ballot, who the people never selected, and yeah, we get the establishment choice," he said. "I think if they tried that, it would be an absolute catastrophe. The people would revolt, and quite rightly.
"That's very different from a contested convention. As you know, we had one in '76 between Reagan and Ford. Look, I believe we're going to beat Donald Trump, and I'm going to get 1,237 delegates. But the other option is that we go into the convention, and I don't have 1,237 delegates, and Donald doesn't have 1,237 delegates, in which case I think he and I will both have a ton of delegates, and we'll be neck and neck.
"I don't know who will be on top. But if we don't get to 1,237, we could easily be on top, or we'll be neck and neck. And then, you actually have the convention, the delegates decide between the candidates that have gotten a whole bunch of delegates. That's actually the democratic process working the way it's supposed to. And I think there, then it becomes a decision for the delegates."
No and No.
Is Ted Cruz a natural-born citizen eligible to serve as president? [Yes! And I support him! JimRob]

How did Bush, Sr. help Reagan? How did Cheney help Junior?
VP's don't propose bills, make laws, change laws, enforce laws, or remove laws.
Mostly, they 'entertain'. Ted Cruz is a good technician, but he's not an entertainer.
What is astounding me is that under rule 40b, Trump has won. He does not need 1237. no one else can be nominated but DJT. No one. If they change the rule it will be a singular assault on millions of voters!! As I calculate the winner take all states , he will reach 8 easy!! Nobody else will reach 8 ( the majority of delegates in that state.) I think this is really big?
No. Let the Chump Trump bully his way through on his own.
I tried saying that on another post but you say it so much better..: )
I’d like to say that, but both candidates have done things to one another which don’t suggest theater. On Trump’s part, comparing Cruz to Soetoro in regards to citizenship and threatening to sue him over it isn’t going to be so easily forgiven. On Cruz’s part, putting down Trump for being attacked by Leftist thugs is going to be interpreted as assault by Trump. And those are just a preview of how much they have grown to hate each other.
It’s clear at this point that if Trump had never ran, Cruz would coast to victory; and vice-versa.
>>He is an independent running under the Republican banner because he knows how difficult an actual independent bid is.<<
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
That was then. Now that he has commanded the media for 9 months—as a Republican—and participated in 12 debates, and found an incredible message and base of support . . . the third party bid, to WIN, is feasible.
This would NOT be to throw the election to Hillary. It would be to SAVE the nation from Hillary, because I’m assuming Trump would only consider this in the event the R. party committed suicide and negated the primary process, alienating both the vast Trump movement and the Cruz bedrock base.
No possible way. Cruz is a constitutional conservative and Trump is a constitution illiterate and an authoritarian bully. They do not mix.
How can the canadian be Trump’s VP? Trump has already said teddy was born in canada. The soetoro clown was born in kenya and how is that workin’ outs?
Trump should not chose Cruz. It would be great to add Cruz to the cabinet. But Cruz doesn’t help Trump in a general election. And Trump doesn’t help Cruz.
Trump would need a well known and respected person. Christi would work but Kasich would be better. You would like a guy that is very pro Trump. Can live with and defend Trump. And who the public finds to be level headed, thoughtful and trustworthy.
There is no reason to find someone farther to the right of Trump. It will be a cost and no benefit. Is there really someone to the right of Trump who wants Hillary to be president?
If you could find a female or a man who women like, and maybe comes from a state that is in play that would be great. Meg Whitman would be perfect if she didn’t hate Trump. The Babe from Hawaii would be wonderful. Even if she is a democrat.
Remember you want the opposite of Trump. Someone who brings calm and reason. Cheney was that for Bush. Biden for Obama, Johnson for Kennedy, Bush for Reagan. If the top of the ticket is considered to be dangerous, a calm senior citizen helps make the ticket less dangerous. If the top of the ticket is considered a neophyte, an elder statesmen helps people believe that lack of knowledge won’t be an issue.
I would be fine with cruz being vp and im a trump guy
What would you Cruz guys think of a Cruz who would agree to be Trump’s #2? I’d rather see Cruz on the Supreme Court where he would be the next Scalia.
No!!!!!
Right...Cruz has burned too many bridges.....

Like calling Donald a Canadian, and a liar, and someone NOBODY likes? Oh, wait...
Take off eh! A Hoser can hose it down, eh.
JFK hated LBJ and there was incredible bad blood between them.
Sure, Cruz is a great guy.
