This is already the most fascinating Republican presidential primary campaign since the fabled Ford-Reagan fight of 1976,
But at the moment it looks like it won't turn out as well from the establishment's perspective.
Back then, the establishment managed to put their candidate over the top against his right-wing challenger.
That's not likely to happen this year.
That's because the Ford-Reagan race was essentially a two-man race.
But the Trump-Rubio-Cruz race has three men in it.
One is likely to keep getting around a third of the vote while the other two split up most of the remainder.
The hope for the establishment is that Ted Cruz will drop out and let Marco Rubio have a one-on-one shot against Donald Trump.
That's not likely, at least not to Steve Lonegan.
Lonegan, the conservative who lost a close battle to Chris Christie in the 2009 gubernatorial primary, has been out in Nevada for the past couple of weeks organizing the Cruz campaign.....

Cruz for SCOTUS!
Trump should make that deal.
Cabana Boy Scamnesty supporter Rubio is going nowhere. Cruz should avoid him.
Big moneyed backers are pulling Cruz strings about Rubio.
Well, it is funny that NO results have come in at all yet. I guess they can’t say anything until it is all over and they Finally start a count...lol
I will not vote for Rubio or Trump.
CBS Snooze is calling it for Trump already.
Fox just called it for Trump.
So Hillary is your choice?
No possible way. Rubio has lied about Cruz endlessly. He has also lied to voters — first to get elected to the Senate and now in his Presidential race. I will not be party to elevating THAT to the Presidency. I can only speak for myself.
Neither will I vote for Trump. I didn’t vote for Romney, either. Republicans must give an acceptable candidate. If they don’t, it’s their fault, not mine.
No, it is apparently the Rubio and Trump supporter’s choice. They are the ones pushing unacceptable candidates. Another “can win” loser.
Well Bye
Take your ball and go home
You go home.
“Nevada: The anti-Trump forces want Cruz to help Rubio, but that’s unlikely”
Why should that be unlikely, given Trump has spent the last weeks painting Cruz as the biggest liar in the universe?
Oh, so now the Trumpazoids want us to be on their side and not Rubios? And just why should we give Donald the time of day?
Actually, it would be in their mutual interest to stop firing at each other so much and concentrate their fire on the guy they both need to beat.
Trump is the Establishment.
He’s got a funny way of showing it.

You really are making me laugh.Do you do stand up anywhere or is that just for Free Republic?
You didn’t read the articles I linked, did you?
Rubio is GOPe through and through. Eff him and all his GOPe moles.
There’s so much crap floating around about Cruz and Trump that I begin to discount it all. My bottom line becomes this: Trump builds things. Cruz is a lawyer and a parasite like the rest of the candidates, excepting Fiorina and Carson and they are out of it. This leaves Trump as the only viable candidate that isn’t a complete parasite who never built anything. That counts a lot with me. I no longer wish to vote for parasites.
