Ted Cruz: Are Democrats Behind Trump's Citizenship Questions?
Texas Tribune ^ | Jan. 12, 2016 | Patrick Svitek

Posted on 01/12/2016 3:03:50 PM PST by Isara

HUDSON, N.H. — Ted Cruz on Tuesday went further than ever in needling Donald Trump, suggesting Democrats are behind the billionaire's questions about his citizenship.

Speaking with reporters after a rally here, the U.S. senator from Texas was asked what he thought of Trump citing Harvard law professor Laurence Tribe's analysis that Cruz might be ineligible to be president. Trump has pounced on Cruz's Canadian birth to cast doubt on whether he is a natural-born citizen.

“I will say it is more than a little strange to see Donald relying on as authoritative a liberal, left-wing, judicial activist Harvard law professor who is a huge Hillary supporter," Cruz replied. "It starts to make you think, ‘Gosh, why are some of Hillary’s strongest supporters backing Donald Trump?’"

Cruz then suggested Democrats were supporting Trump as a way of propping up a Republican they believe they can beat in the general election.

"You know, the last couple of elections, you’ll recall the Democrats got the nominee they wanted to run against in the general election," Cruz said. "It seems the Hillary folks are very eager to support Donald Trump and the attacks that are being tossed my direction.'"

The remarks represent Cruz's sharpest turn yet on Trump, whom he has refused to criticize for months, even as the billionaire has sharpened his attacks against Cruz. The two are now locked in a tight race in Iowa, the first-in-the-country caucus state.

Trump has been raising questions about whether Cruz is a natural-born citizen, which the Constitution requires for someone to serve as president. Cruz has insisted the legal question is straightforward: He argues his mother's U.S. citizenship (she's from Delaware) makes him a natural-born citizen, even if he was born in Calgary and his father is from Cuba.

Tribe, whom taught constitutional law to Cruz at Harvard, has said the issue is not as cut and dry, recently telling The Guardian that questions about Cruz's eligibility to be president are "murky and unsettled." Trump has favorably cited Tribe's analysis more than once, calling the professor a "constitutional expert, one of the best in the country," during a rally Monday in New Hampshire.

Tribe, viewed as one of the top liberal law professors in the country, has a long history of donating to Democratic candidates and causes. He did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Cruz is back in the Granite State for the first time in two months. He plans to hold another event later Tuesday afternoon, a town hall in Londonderry.

When the media reporter asked Trump about this, Trump said:
*********************************************************************

Oh...the old “the media made me do it” excuse.

Trump has nothing to do with the birth of Cruz...that is entirely up to Cruz to decide what is the best way to handle this...

If this was Trump, it wouldn’t be an issue, it would have already been dealt with, but Cruz thinks he can out last this thing and he’s not going to be able to do that...he has to get out in front of it, do the proper steps and get things right, it’s his name on the problem not Trump’s....

Know your candidate, know everything about your candidate, vet them, read about them, know every little detail about them before you back them...I did this with Trump...I have read all his books, have followed him in the news, for 17 years as I lived in PA. he was on the news all the time...everything he was doing was always being reported on...I’m even surprised we don’t know how many spoons he uses to eat his soup with...

This is how you support your candidate, you know them, something a lot of Cruz supporters haven’t done....and now they are in full panic over this...and I can understand that...but don’t blame Trump for this, Cruz is the one born in Canada not Trump....

No it’s not the ‘old media made me do it’ it was and is the truth...something you Cruz supporters can’t understand...

The media reporter asked Trump about this and Trump said:

“I don’t know, I really don’t know but he needs to take care of this, the Democrats will if he doesn’t”....well now Cruz has a problem...

Trump was born in America, Cruz was born in Canada, who has the problem?

Like I said, only someone with standing can bring a case. Only a case can bring a judgment and resolve the issue. I’m not panicking over it. I long ago reviewed the Constitution and the law and agree with the majority of legal experts that Cruz is a NBC.

Trump knows he is, too, but as long as he can muddy the waters, he will.

Right...we believe you. The media also has made Trump play “Born in the USA” at his concerts...ah, I mean campaign rallies.

By the way, what is the ration of non-citizen employees to US citizen employees at Trump’s STATESIDE businesses?

-- And to bring a case to court you have to argue that you were wronged in some way. --

Not necessarily. See restraining orders. Courts will act to prevent harm, for example to prevent an environmental hazard from damaging adjacent property or public property (waterways, ground water).

I do agree that a suit relating to ballot access depends on a threat to that access, and there is positively no threat. Cruz has been certified eligible, and the presumption is conclusive for ballot access purposes. Nobody has standing - the issue is decided already, conclusively.

Some people don't like that, and they have good reasons, wanting a guarantee that all the candidates are eligible. Tough cookies. The law says that certification is conclusive, period, end of discussion.

I will never believe he didn’t know about this until recently.

He has an extraordinary mind. He knew he was born in Canada.

So in all of these years of dealing with the law he never once thought ..oh hey, I might have dual citizenship.

WOW....that is a slam dunk!

“Interviewer: “What is your understanding of how one becomes a natural born Citizen?”
Cruz: “Two citizen parents and born on the soil.”

Not to mention that he committed fraud by becomeing a Senator without notifying the voters he was a citizen of Canada. His ambition is bigger than his ethics....and he of all people should have known better.

No need for court recommendations to TRUMP. The Democrat senator, whose name I have forgotten, has already announced he will independently sue for grievance against Ted Cruz, the same day he were to be ever nominated.

TRUMP knows that.

In fact, the litigation announcement against Cruz on this complaint may have been even prior to TRUMP expressing his opinion on the subject, that Cruz may have a definite problem to attend to that clarifies his eligibility.

So what would Tribe say about Obama, huh? I'd bet the farm that he would not be saying what he is saying about Cruz

That is the certified NUT, Alan Grayson, who was basing his case on the false information that Cruz’s mother was not a U.S. citizen. Mr. Grayson does not have standing. Trump does.

I know, but it is something that doesn’t bother me, I have been around business people to know about it, I don’t need to vet my candidate to anyone but me, and I have done that...Trump is great and the one that gets MY vote...that’s what is important, MY vote....

And as far as the ‘rat’ problem, they all do it...so what? He is a business man, they donate to them all...big deal...it only bothers you because it’s Trump...ask the other candidates but of course they are ‘governors’ and ‘politicians’ and they live off their super pacs, lobbyists and handlers....big diffence...

When you vetted your candidate (Trump) did you determine the ratio of non-citizens to US citizens employed at his STATESIDE business locations?
