Iowa caucus voters start voting for president next year on Feb 1 with New Hampshire primary voters following eight days later on Feb. 9.

For the 13 Republicans jockeying for pole position in the demolition derby called the GOP primary season, only five of them—Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, real estate billionaire Donald Trump, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie—have any shot of taking on the Democratic nominee next year, according to an interactive match-up offered by The New York Times that takes the measure of each candidate in several key categories.

Hillary Crushes

Democrats only have three candidates running, and Hillary Clinton is widely expected to be the pick over her chief competitors, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley.

According to the Times, “Prediction Markets,” where traders bet on event outcomes, only have positive news for five of the bakers’ dozen of GOP White House hopefuls. Mr. Rubio leads the pack at 35 percent, with the other four Republican candidates following in descending order: Mr. Cruz [26%], Mr. Trump [23%], Mr. Bush [10%] and Mr. Christie [5%]....

The immigration deniers won’t concede the obvious. The GOP is not going to nominate someone who won’t take a blood oath on immigration.

Rubio will only be nominated if The Cheap Labor Express can manipulate the process.

I, like many others, have been thinking Trump/Cruz. But Cruz might win it and somehow I just don’t see Cruz/Trump as a likelihood.

So who would Cruz pick?
Woman?
Black?
Latino?
Mike Lee?

“Mike Lee?”

I’d be wary of pushing Mike Lee. There are things going on in Utah.

Knowing your disdain for national polls, let’s focus on the latest IA poll which shows the race a dead heat 31% to 31% between Trump and Cruz. For all the evangelical support, ground game and endorsements (including the Fox News-esque, “fair and balanced” Des Moines Register that had Cruz up 10 points 2 weeks ago) shouldn’t Cruz be way out in front at this point? But he’s not....

“I see what they want to do, one large problem, Trump supporters aren’t going to bend over.....”

I’m voting for Trump, even if I have to write him in. No more pro-amnesty, donor driven, career politicians who can’t give a straight answer to what to do with the illegals here.

That’s exactly how I feel....if Trump doesn’t get the nomination, I’m writing in his name...I will not vote for Cruz or any of the other ‘politicians’ they are all owned by super pacs; lobbyists and other people, and the only other ‘outsider’ other than Trump is Carson, and I won’t vote for him...

I’m disappointed - I wore my new Trump hat to town today to a couple of stores and it didn’t start a single conversation.

I am of the belief that in some areas, people are keeping very quite about supporting Trump, not because they are afraid to voice their opinions, but because they don’t want the media or anyone who they are going to vote for....

I won’t answer a call that doesn’t come up on my call list, and I won’t take online surveys, I have converted some people to Trump, some were thinking about Cruz, some were democrats....

I’m with you. I actually have a picture of myself in a group with Rubio. He gave an extemporaneous speech when he was running against Crist for the Senate seat to a group of tea party GOP. He sounded pretty much like Mr Trump back then on illegals. The bastard can eat cat turds and go die now (just a saying not a threat) for all I’m concerned.

Good job!

I think there will be a lot of cross-over voters, democrats and independents disappointed in what Obama has done. And the breath of fresh air that is Trump - straight shooting and PC be damned - appeals to all types of voters!
