The Republican presidential race could be about to get a lot smaller
Business Insider ^ | August 11, 2015 | Eric Pianin, The Fiscal Times

Former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania gets agitated when political analysts question why he is still in the race for the GOP presidential nomination when he is scoring less than 2 percent in the polls and has barely raised $1 million in campaign funds – a pittance compared with many of his rivals.

He notes that when he ran for president last time, he had little money and low single-digit standing in the polls in January 2012 – just before he went on to beat Mitt Romney in the Iowa caucuses.

This time, Santorum is so far behind the large Republican presidential field that the Pennsylvania Republican will be lucky to make it past the Iowa caucuses next January. With a record 17 Republicans seeking the 2016 presidential nomination – currently headed by real estate tycoon Donald Trump – the winnowing process is likely to begin soon.

In the wake of last Thursday’s stormy, doubled-barreled GOP presidential debates, two of the contenders – Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry -- appear to be losing altitude....

Well, we all know he’s just a place holder for Jeb. He’ll drop out after an appropriate time and throw his support to Senor Jeb.

Santorum won’t support Jeb. Their positions on immigration are polar opposites.

I wouldn’t be so sure, frankly. Most of the positions of these career politicians are for sale to the highest bidder - anything that can get them elected.

Those running purely on conviction of principles are extremely few and far between.

I think these also-rans like Santorum, Rick Perry, Huck, Jim Gilmore, and George Pataki are running for president to raise their public profile. They know they have no shot in hell of winning the presidency, but they want to look and sound good in front of the cameras for a debate or two in hopes of catching attention from a corporation or some other organization to get their next high paying gig. It’s simply resume enhancement at a high level.

Santorum’s time has come and gone, he’s the only one that can’t see it, same with Huckabee.

My viable candidates:

Jeb, I’ll vote 3rd party or write in.
Rubio, can vote for him if I have too!
Paul, will vote for him gladly, not my first choice.
Fiorina, will vote for her gladly, not my first choice. Will eviscerate Hitlery.
Cruz, My first Choice! Will walk over the dead and glass to get to the polling place!

Just my Opinion the rest are wasting there time even being in the race even though I like them as people and should be tapped in a Cruz administration!

So what is in it for Santorum to shift his support, as insignificant as it is, to Jeb?

The shaking out will be similar to the 2012 shaking out.

As a Pubbie seems to get ‘frontrunner’ status, the Media will double time to get the dirty on him/her.

One by one, the Pubbie wannabes will be dropping out.

#1 reason — money woes [see Rick Perry].

#2 skeleton(s) in the closet — perceived or real.

There are ALWAYS patronage jobs and Presidential Nominations for other high government positions. That stuff is part and parcel to these campaigns.
