Lindsey Graham to Voter Suggesting Banning Islam: ‘I Don’t Want Your Vote’
Mediaite ^ | July 3, 2015 | Ken Meyer

Senator Lindsey Graham has made his position clear in the past that he would lead America to a more direct form of engagement with ISIS should he become president in 2016. During an election event in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday, he promised his attendees that he would say “exactly what I believe” on the issues, which was soon followed by an opportunity to prove it.

While Graham said at the event that he’s not shy when it comes to voicing his disagreement, he has not yet suggested that the way to deal with Islamic terror extremists is by prohibiting the religion’s observance across America. The Des Moines Register reported that when a potential voter suggested outlawing Islam, Graham shut him down hard, saying, “You know what, I’m not your candidate.”

“I don’t want you to vote for me,” Graham said, cutting him off. “I couldn’t disagree with you more.”

Graham went on to say that he was not looking to please those looking to create a prohibition, instead suggesting that strengthening the military and deploying more troops to Iraq would be a stronger approach.

“He’s got a right to say whatever he wants to say,” Graham said, “but I have an obligation to the Republican Party, to the people of Iowa and the country as a whole to be firm on this. I’m not buying into that construct. That’s not the America that I want to lead.”

Not a fan of the senator, but he’s right.

Banning a religion is a ridiculous suggestion and deserves to be called out as such.

Just proof you can get anyone to believe in anything. Just like Scientology, Mormon, et al.

Maybe a fellow FReeper can enlighten me on this question. I know years ago that candidates got to KEEP all the money contributed to the campaign even if they lost, dropped out etc. Is that still the case? If so most are just in this for a huge payday. Linda knows he/she cannot possible win the nod. IF not what happens to the millions donated to some of these clowns? Thanks.

Actually I had forgotten about Perry.
Oh Well, none of these three, I would vote for. Even for assistant to the assistant dog catcher.

A veteran is a veteran; no “technically” about it. Either you are one or are not one. The difference is if an individual was a tip of the spear warfighter or a REMF. Depending on the Service, there are 3-4x more REMFs than warfighters (teeth-to-tail ratio).

Did you have four heavily armed bodyguards with you at all times, because I know I didn’t.

nazism had a religious component to it. i think if anyone tried to open a nazi church here they'd run into local, state, and federal problems.

islam and nazism were allies during WWII. bosnian muzzies flocked to join the Handschar SS division.

here is Hitler meeting with the grand mufti of jerusalem.

it seems to me that islam SHOULD be a "religion" that we need to take a closer look at. it does in fact advocate the overthrow of our Constitution in favor of sharia law. that is sedition. in a sane world without cultural marxists, we already would have outlawed islam and knocked down every filthy mosque in the country, while also deporting every muslim back to whatever middle eastern sh**hole they came from.

islam is a threat to our country and our values and our freedoms.

Hard to define “REMF” when nearly everyone is subject to orders that might get them killed or maimed and with terrorism, guerilla warfare, accidents and etc. coming into play. Casey Sheehan was a chaplain’s assistant, as I recall.

Nope, I was in the warfighter category. Don’t get me wrong: Linda is a REMF’s REMF, and the worst kind, a JAG officer. And yes, even worse, a politician with bodyguards while doing his AT. Wouldn’t support that sperm catcher for dog catcher. And yet, he still gets to say he’s a veteran, unfortunate as that may be.

I was referencing Al Gore’s bodyguards, but both fit.

Chaplain’s assistants are an interesting group. By statute & Geneva Conventions, chaplains cannot be armed, yet they often are in hot zones ministering to the troops. In addition to aiding with religious services and pastoral & administrative matters, chaplain’s assistants serve as bodyguards and drivers. Navy RPs train with the Marines to learn combat skills — many Navy chaplains & RPs serve with USMC units.
