The latest North Carolina survey from Public Policy Polling suggests that conservative U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz entering the race is stunting Scott Walker's momentum in North Carolina.
The PPP poll released on April 10 shows Jeb Bush now leads the GOP field in North Carolina with 19 percent to 16 percent for Walker, with Cruz, Mike Huckabee and Marco Rubio each at 11 percent, Ben Carson at 9 percent, Chris Christie at 7 percent, Rand Paul at 6 percent and Rick Perry at 2 percent.
Cruz is up 8 points from his 3 percent standing a month ago, while Walker is down 8 points from 24 percent on that previous poll. Those shifts are not a coincidence, according to PPP, which says its numbers show that Cruz is eating into Walker's support with voters who describe themselves as "very conservative."
A month ago, Walker led Cruz 32 to 7 with these voters, but now the spread is just 19/17.
On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton, who is expected to announce her candidacy this weekend, leads with 53 percent to 13 percent for Joe Biden, 11 percent for Elizabeth Warren, 5 percent for Martin O'Malley, 3 percent for Jim Webb and 2 percent for Bernie Sanders.
General election match ups for president in North Carolina remain close, with Clinton slipping slightly from a month ago.
The Republicans who do the best against Clinton are Huckabee and Walker. She trails both in a hypothetical match up.
Still, the survey shows she's easily the strongest Democratic candidate in the state.
Joe Biden would start out 9 points behind Walker and Elizabeth Warren has a 10 point deficit. Overall the picture in North Carolina continues to suggest a very close presidential race, just like the state had in 2008 and 2012.
This is the Jeb-Romney Plan, win by plurality
Did Jeb part the Red Sea or something like that? Why bother with these mindless polls?
This poll shows exactly how Bush will win the nomination.
Tribal GOP voters will vote for their tribal chief, thus splitting the conservative vote.
Expect the same result as the past if this does not change.
A GOP RINO nominee that will lose...again.
Ouch!
Every conservative except Cruz should drop out and support Ted.
Then they’re flopping. I see Ted burying Ron Paul, Jr., Jeb’s Latino mini-me, Krispy Kreme, Miss Hewlett-Packard, Bad Toupee, Gomer Huckleberry, Sweater Vest and Dr. Foot-in-mouth, if they all even declare. This is the dauphin vs. Cruz. It’ll be like Newt (with 20X more money & brains) versus Milt.
bump
Exactly!
Every conservative except Cruz should drop out and support Ted.
Every conservative except for Walker should drop and and support Scott. Fixed it.
Bush must be politically destroyed. They do it to Conservatives, time to do it to them.
Plus the Reagan Democrats and Indies are seeing Cruz is not another Bush, since he’s running against the Dynasty.
Hope Jeb makes attacks against him to further define the contrast.
Not Socialist? check Not a Clinton? check Not a Bush? check.. this will compel millions of voters even if they personally know nothing about the man right now. They will have the pleasure of learning over the next year just who he is!
This would be a Wisconsin paper nobody reads and nobody could care less about trying to harass Walker. Laughable.
PPP, a famous national polling firm, did the poll, the “laughable” newspaper merely reported on it.
Wrong. We have an entire stable of good conservative candidates. Nobody should drop out...except for Jeb Bush.
The Bush family married into the Walker family (that’s what the “Dubya” in George W. Bush stands for) and the Pierces so I’m wondering if Scott is one of those Walkers?
Agree. Remember, Reagan wasn’t even in the picture, at this point.
Cruz just needs to keep on doing what he’s doing. His message will go far and wide. (Not a slap at Hitlery!)
lol.....after 3 elections in 4 years and hatred that Scott gets from the Republicans and Democrats......they would have found that nugget and used it big time.
