Is Scott Walker too Midwestern to be president?
The Chicago Tribune ^ | February 5, 2015 | Aaron Blake

Scott Walker is the hottest thing in the 2016 GOP presidential race (to the extent it even exists). He gave a very well-received speech at the Iowa Freedom Summit a couple of weekends ago, and the new Bloomberg/Des Moines Register poll of the Iowa caucuses has him surging into first place..

Which is even more notable because of one of the prevailing questions about Walker's likely candidacy: whether he's too boring to win.

Walker, you see, has the unfortunate distinction of running four years after another upper-Midwestern GOP governor flamed out early in the GOP primary. Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, it seemed, was too Midwestern even for Iowa. The likeliest challenger to Mitt Romney's front-runner status — on paper at least — underperformed in the Iowa Straw Poll and was out of the race well before the caucuses started the official voting.

So the Walker-Pawlenty comparisons were inevitable.

"When some have talked about Walker, they unfavorably compare him to Gov. Tim Pawlenty, another nice, neighborly Republican who was considered too tepid," wrote Slate's John Dickerson last week.

Bloomberg declared this week: "If Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker runs for president, he should take a good hard look at the styling of another Midwestern governor, Tim Pawlenty, and what doomed that candidacy in 2012."(continued)

The fact he’s not an East Coast Mass-hole elevates him rather high in my book.

No, he’s too Mitt Romney to win. Mitt’s good-bye:

“..I would have the best chance of beating the eventual Democrat nominee, but that’s before the other contenders have had the opportunity to take their message to the voters.

“I believe that one of our next generation of Republican leaders — one who may not be as well-known as I am today, one who has not yet taken their message across the country, one who is just getting started — may well emerge as being better able to defeat the Democrat nominee. In fact, I expect and hope that to be the case.”

When gop-elite Mitt gives you the jet and the donors and voter base, it means his chosen candidate is most aligned with him.

We can take Romney’s platform, plank by plank and see how Walker is dovetailing into each of them. Walker has been forced recently to move to the left to get his OWN state to vote for him, after they approved Barack Obama *twice*.

Agreed. Plus he isn’t even in the same boring league as Tim Pawlenty, who was a mere caretaker in Minnesota. Scott Walker was and is a game changer.

I prefer Cruz but if Cruz doesn’t run it will be Walker for me.

He stands head and Shoulders over Christie or Butch.

No; he is too dedicated to sympathy for and inclusion of illegal immigrants, many here won’t like that assessment and attempt to provide cover; time to call these wannabe’s on what they believe, most of us had enough of back-trackers and flip-floppers, time for someone who says what he means and means what he says.

CRUZ 2016!

Is the Chicago Tribune too in the tank with the Democrat party to opine about GOP candidates?

Governor Scott Walker (R-WI) is effective and a proven winner against everything the corrupt Donkeys of the state have thrown against him. The Chicago Tribune, Donkey media lackey, is afraid of him — very, very afraid of him running for POTUS.

Your enemies will project upon you what they fear most. What Democrats (and RINOs) fear is an articulate Republican FIGHTER running for POTUS. What they don't fear is a mealy-mouthed, RINO GOPee Establishment elite candidate like Jeb Bush or Chris Christie or most of the other ‘approved’ Republicans now talked about.

“Scott Walker was and is a game changer”

He will not fade. He will not yield. He will prevail.

Walker got results. Pawlenty just kept the status quo in MN.

Haven’t you heard? All the cool kids now like Scott Walker because he fought the unions and .... well, I’m sure he did other things and he’s not an “Ivy League lackey” like Ted Cruz and Rush likes him and he shops at Kohls.

No, I’ve been assured by dozens of people here that statements he made way back in 2013 about a pathway to citizenship in no way imply that he’s for illegal alien amnesty and that I should just shut my mouth and accede to their wishes that he be the nominee.
