Sarah Palin Lays Out Her Views in Tea Party Speech, Without Formally Announcing 2012 Candidacy
International Business Times ^ | September 3, 2011

Posted on 09/03/2011 12:42:46 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

In front of a wildly supportive crowd of Tea Party members at a rally in Indianola, Iowa, Sarah Palin said that the U.S. is now at a “tipping point.”

While didn’t explicitly announce her candidacy for the 2012 Presidential race, observers at the Des Moines Register who covered the event said Palin’s comments sounded like a campaign speech.

“Iowa you are good people,” Palin said. “We’re here because America is at a tipping point. America faces a crisis, and it’s not a crisis like perhaps a Midwest summer storm that moves in and hits hard, but then moves on.”

When the crowd interrupted her 40-minute speech with wild cheers, Palin said: “Folks, you know it’s not enough to just change up the uniform … if we don’t change the game plan.”

Palin covered a broad array of her topics during her speech in front of a rain-soaked crowd of some 2,000.

“Our country can’t afford more trillion dollar thank you notes to campaign backers,” she said. “Like you, I’m not for sale.”

Warning that “it’s time restore a country that we love,” she said the people need to “restore all that is free and good and right about America.”

Here are some other quotes from Palin’s speech as quoted by a Register series of tweets.

*“Real hope is in you. It’s not that hopey, changey stuff that we heard about back in 2008.”

*“Instead of chasing industry off-shore, I propose to eliminate all federal corporate income tax.”

*“Many big corporations, they skirt federal taxes because they have friends in DC who write the rules for the rest of us.”

*“America’s economic revival starts with America’s energy revival.”

*“We need to move on tapping our own God-given natural resources that are part of our reserves.”

*“The real stimulus that we’re waiting for is robust and responsible domestic energy production.”

*“Let’s enforce the 10th amendment. Devolve powers back locally.”

*“My plan is a bona fide, pro working-man’s plan.”

*“The real challenge is not whether we will replace Obama in 2012 but who we will replace him with.”

*“I believe in the free market which is why I detest crony capitalism. ... Obama has shown us crony capitalism on steroids.”

*“I don’t play that game of hiring expert political advisers just so they’ll say something nice about me on TV.”

*“You want to know why the permanent political class never really cuts anything? It’s because there’s nothing in it for them.”

*“Polls? Usually I say polls are for strippers and cross-country skiers.”

*“We are governed by a permanent political class, until we change that.”

*“President Obama, is this what you call winning the future? I call it losing our country.”

*“We love our country in good times and in bad and we never apologize for America.”

The corner the DNC operatives and deputy demons thought they had penned her into with ludicrous law suits as governor of Alaska is well documented. If she had remained in office her State would have suffered along with her own family. And the huge, and to the professional political and chattering classes inexplicable, swath she has hewed since resigning as governor would never have been cut. So, overall and from as close to an objective point of view as I can manage, that risk she took has paid off handsomely.

The media hang on her every word and crowds in the thousands line up for hours to see and hear her. Her name is probably second only to Obama's in numbers of media mentions and public recognition (much of it negative, I will freely admit, but how is #1 looking these days?) Her image to the public at large is a flimsy construct of lies and ridicule that must be overcome. But think back, if you were there, to how an even more monopolistic and powerful national media portrayed Reagan.

For me the truly interesting aspect of this speech (an announcement of candidacy in all but title) is how the Populist theme creates separation for her from every single current or likely future candidate (with the sole exception of Herman Cain) within and without her party. Her avowed enemies (and ours) are the political class, the media, and the manipulators on Wall Street. No wonder she scares the living s*** out of them all.

I like her and I’d vote for her, but she does seem to be willing to decamp, either for personal or political reasons, when the going gets rough.

The frivolous lawsuits cost Alaska taxpayers $2Mil. Should she have stayed and cost the $4Mil? $6Mil?

She was in debt to lawyers for $500,000 with a higher bill in sight. A Governor earns $125,000. Her home was in jeopardy. Should she have lost it?

Yeah, I wish I could do that.

I live where we have a "no political sign" rule. I can't even put one in my yard. But we can put them in our windows. My front windows (and the ones in back visible from the golf cart path) will have "Not for Sale - Palin 2012" signs soon.

The HOA president, who is also the Republican Executive Committee precinct chair, lives across the street. I'm sure he'll love it </sarcasm>

You wish she had "nobly" sacrificed her family's finances by declaring bankruptcy, and you wish she had caused her own administration to be forced to expend all its efforts to dealing with frivolous lawsuits on the taxpayer's dime?

She was being "attacked" not with bullets, but with frivolous lawsuits. Got it?

The attempted "assassination" was FINANCIAL, and it was deliberate. GOT IT?

There were, if I recall correctly, 32 frivolous lawsuits when she left, and her own expenses to fight them were close to $600,000 (she was legally prevented by her enemies from paying it with a defense fund set up for her by her supporters). EVERY ONE of the lawsuits was dismissed, but she still had to pay the $half mill out of the Palin family finances.

Had she remained in office, there could very well have been 100 or more of these frivolous lawsuits filed (filers didn't have to pay a dime; on the other hand, Alaskan law required that the governor pay for defending the lawsuits out of her own pocket, and that her administration take time to do the paperwork to answer the suits), and the personal debt Palin already faced would likely have gone well over $1 million. The energy (on the taxpayers' dime) expended by her staff in the Governor's office to take care of the REQUIRED paperwork to answer the lawsuits would have not only paralyzed the administration from attending IMPORTANT work, but would also have cost millions more.

Your wish that she had "stuck it out" is therefore patently ludicrous unless you are among her enemies. Perhaps you really don't know "exactly why she was being attacked." DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. Understand that there are good REASONS so many of us here reject the "she quit because she couldn't handle the heat" argument -- we're not just rejecting it because it makes us feel good -- we're rejecting it because the facts confirm that the argument is BOGUS, propaganda, deceit.

In general, she was being attacked by Democrats for the specific purpose of either driving her out of office or driving her to personal bankruptcy. Specifically, she was being attacked for such things as wearing a ballcap with a fish on it, or having a certain logo on her t-shirt. The people filing the lawsuits didn't care whether they stuck or not, because it didn't matter -- all that mattered was that if they threw enough of them at Palin, they KNEW she'd either have to resign or go bankrupt.

You are either woefully ignorant of the facts, or lying when you imply "I like Palin but ...." One of the other. Either way, your credibility just nose-dived. You really love the idea that Palin couldn't take the political heat ("when the going gets rough.") It must irk you no end when FReepers reveal the truth that the heat Palin couldn't take was FINANCIAL.

And it must REALLY irk you that an attempt to make Palin poorer, ended up backfiring and making her wealthier than ever.

Personally, I think either you're very ignorant and shallowly informed, OR you're bent on opposing Palin and convincing others on FR to join you even if you have to be deceitful to get them on your side. You are one or the other.

That’s what Geert Wilders just told the Germans, in a speech in Germany. Do it like Switzerland and let the power reside in the local canton, not far-away Brussels. (They pack pistols, too)
I'm up for that as well. But that's a much larger war than most people realize. Still, I'm already in the trenches on it.

The problem is that our city councils, county commissions and state houses are infested with ruling class politicians who don't actually believe in the 10th amendment. Even the majority of the RINO "Republicans" who vote for "10th amendment resolutions" won't pass up a "federal grant" in an area where Congress has no actual enumerated power or authority to spend.

If your city council gets a "federal grant" for refurbishing a local park, or your school board takes "federal money" for its operations, you need new city councilmen and/or school board members. Our local TEA Party and 9-12ers go to our county commission meetings and school board meetings, and when "federal grants" are discussed, we confront our local "leaders" (mostly RINOs) and ask them 1) Didn't you swear an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States (they did), and 2) Where in Article 1, Section 8 of the United States Constitution would Congress get the authority to tax the people of South Dakota and Minnesota to pay for parks/roads/schools in our little county in Florida?

Until we are all willing to hold our local and state officials' feet to the fire on this, the President and Congress don't matter so much. They are doing what their "Ruling class" underlings ask them to do.

I believe you are absolutely correct. If she does not run, she will do whatever else she can to take Zer0 out. She was speaking of herself when she said:

"No, the road is not easy. But it is nothing compared to the suffering and sacrifice of those who came before us . . . There is clarity in our calling, patriotic constitutionalists. We have a duty not just to the living but to those who came and died before us and to the generations yet to be born."

"Our freedom was purchased by millions of men now long forgotten throughout history; who charged the bayonet and they charged the cannons. They knew they were going to die but it was worth it for them sacrificing for future generation's freedom. They were the ones who prayed in the trenches and suffered in the POW camps. They gave their lives so that we could be here today."

"You and I are blessed to be born the heirs of freedom. As President John F. K said, "We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution." We are the heirs of those who froze with Washington at Valley Forge; and who held the line at Gettysburg; who freed the slaves to close a shameful chapter and who carved a nation out of the wilderness. We're the sons and daughters of those who stormed the beaches at Normandy and raised the flag at Iwo Jima and made America the strongest, the most prosperous; the greatest nation on earth forever in mankind's history--the greatest; the most exceptional nation."

"America, we will always endure, we will always come through, we will never give up. We shall endure because we live by that moral strength that we call grace. Because though we have often skirted a precipice, a Providential Hand has always guided us to a better future. So let us seek that hand once more. Our Ronald Reagan said, "If we ever forget that we are one nation under God we will be a nation gone under."

"Yes he shed his grace on thee America. We will not squander what we have been given. We will fight for freedom. We will fight for America We are at the tipping point. United we must stand and we shall nobly save not mainly lose this last best hope on Earth. So God bless you Iowa, God bless the United States of America."

I am sure Sarah Palin will run into the bayonet and cannon to answer her call. If that means, running for President, she will do whatever it takes to save "this last best hope on Earth." I will unite behind her, crawl over the broken glass and shield her from the bayonet to help Sarah Palin fulfill her destiny.

You mean the election is THIS November?! Oh. Wait. The primaries haven't even begun.

Nothing is static. Things change. And change quickly in politics.

The deadline to declare is the end of October.

Don't they have a GOP in Alaska that could have helped her?

She allowed herself to be run from office, frankly I can't picture Washington, Jackson, Lincoln or Reagan doing so.

No. She broke up the good ole boy network and some of them went to jail. :-D

Alaska can't be compared to any other state. It's laws are different. And only ONE of the people that you named had been a governor. You can't file lawsuits against the President.

As we can see from the result last fall. the Murkowski machine gained control of the Republican vote in Alaska. Only half the supported Palen while she was governor. She was able to accomplish things because the Democrats supported them. That support went away after the nomination. It was the Murkowskiites and the Dims who forced her out.
