Charles Krauthammers substantive reasons that Sarah Palin cant win in 2012:
I think it would make no sense for her to run. I think her chances of winning the nomination are small. The chances of winning the general election are probably nil. I think, for the same reasons you articulated, 60 percent negatives. Thats almost impossible to overcome. And it isnt as if that is forever. Hillary Clinton had very high negatives at many points in her career. But over time, they tend to soften.
The problem with her, I think, is that she is not schooled. I dont mean she didnt go to the right schools But when it comes to policies, shes had two and a half years to school herself, and she hasnt. And thats a problem. You want a president who will be able to not have to learn on the job. Weve already had that with President Obama and with others Its the lack of effort to school herself and the lack of insight to see that she needs it
I think if youre going to master policy, especially world affairs, youve got to know history. As you said, you have to know how things evolved, and she is weak on that. Its not as if she cant learn. The fact is it doesnt appear as if she wants to sort of sit down, spend some months schooling herself, as many people have done in preparing for the presidency. If youre a governor of any state, you face a narrow range of issues, and you dont have to deal with the world. Its incumbent on you to actually learn about it.
So, just to recap, Sarah Palin cant win against Barack Obama because she has high negatives, she hasnt school[ed] herself, and shes weak on history. But an incompetent community agitator with no executive experience, no private sector experience and who is an acolyte of Alinsky is qualified because he has a beautiful, cultured speaking voice.
George Wills substantive reasons that Sarah Palin cant win in 2012:
The independent voters have made up their minds about her, and it is a negative judgment theyve made After the 2008 campaign she had two things she had to do: she had to go home to Alaska and study, and she had to govern Alaska well. Instead she quit halfway through her first term and shows up in the audience of Dancing with the Stars and other distinctly non-presidential venues
Just to recap: independent voters have a negative opinion of Palin. And the fact that Democrat operatives had filed 18 frivolous lawsuits all later dismissed against her (source: Associated Press), which were bankrupting her family, had nothing at all to do with it. That, plus appearing in the audience of Dancing with the Stars, disqualifies her.
Is this really what passes for informed commentary inside the Beltway?
Remember: Krauthammer worked for Walter-Freaking-Mondale in 1980. George Will endorsed Howard Baker in 1980. Both of these guys completely missed the Reagan revolution. Krauthammer and Will are certainly smart dudes, but their political instincts appear to be for s***. Palin can win. Bachmann can win. Cain can win. Ryan can win. Santorum can win. Obama is a sitting duck if confronted with a true, articulate Constitutional conservative.
Hes a walking, talking disaster as President. And everyone knows it.
By the way, Ive been out of town for a while. How are those Stimulus, HAMP, Cash-for-Clunkers, Weatherization, Green Jobs, Obamacare, Banking Reform, drilling moratorium, First-Time Home-Buyer Credit, auto company takeovers and QE2 programs working out?
Hat tips: Mark Levin and Gateway Pundit.
I don’t understand the rationale that says because people stupidly elected an unqualified, inexperienced community organizor the last time, we should by extension overlook any shortcomings Sarah or any other candidates has. The presidency is not an affirmative action, learn on the job resume enhancer. We need someone ready to lead from day one, and yes I have my doubts Sarah is that person. Just because someone says the right things, gives good speeches and draws big crowds does mean they are qualified to run a country of 300M people.
I LOVE Sarah Palin and regularly contribute to her PAC. That being said, I hope she doesn't run. The MSM and liberals will literally destroy the chance for any polite political discourse if she runs, so insane is their hatred for her.
Do I like the idea of going with a different candidate because the libs have slowly become dangerously unbalanced? No. But that's where we are.
I think Sarah would be much better utilized as the Chairwoman of the RNC. Raising money, energizing the troops, and making kings.
Rest assured, Sarah is more than tough enough to take the heat, it's just that a significant portion (although most assuredly a minority) has been wired to think of her as public enemy #1.
>>I think the UNdefeated almost makes her enter the race....<<
Now it is just handicapping...
Great analogy.
Coincidentally it was precisely gay guys who most hated Christine O’Donnell, and seem most insane about Palin.
The only thing that would keep Palin from winning are the intellectually lazy idiots out there who call Palin “Stupid” all the while claiming she said she can see Russia from her house, hunts Wolves from Helicopters, believes that she said Dinosaurs roamed the Earth 4,000 years ago, and dozens of other falsehoods that the media choose not to debunk, but spread them like when MSNBC claimed Palin said Africa was a country and had to retract the statement.
Yet there are Millions of people who believe the above lies, and call Palin too stupid to be in office.
Ironic, but unfair.
The media elected a glorified “community organizer” while refusing smearing Palin.
That’s why Palin won’t win - the media and the left will just make up some more crazy claims about her, and the intellectually lazy will stay home or vote for an empty suit with an empty slogan that will bankrupt the country.
>>Yeah!! Dude! And when she bakes some cookies and they burn a little on the edges, what will your excuse be then?!
Get lost, tubesock.<<
Ah reverse PDS. Because someone makes a completely apolitical prediction about Gov. Palin not running for POTUS, that is a reason for derision and insults.
And I ask again, should I be correct, what shall be your response? Will you blame me for her decision?
Because all the political pointers are pointing to her not running.
And should she toss her hat in the ring, just how has my prediction hurt her prospects? If she is our candidate, I will support her completely with no reservations.
I don’t understand your insult-laden response to a completely objective prediction.
“I have never seen people slip leftward so much.”
///i agree.
...a very few libs are classical libs with integrity. i think that guy Pat Gladel? is.
and some libs have completely come over from the dark side. Like Roger L Simon. a lot of smart people are moving right. ...but as the article said:
“Remember: Krauthammer worked for Walter-Freaking-Mondale in 1980. George Will endorsed Howard Baker in 1980.”
...so it seems that maybe they never were are true conservative as we thought?
...but i don’t care. i refuse to watch or listen to them,
ever again.
they are simply not important. winning in 2012, with a TRUE conservative, is.
She’s young. She can wait until 2016 or 2020 no matter what.
>>The only thing that would keep Palin from winning are the intellectually lazy idiots out there who call Palin Stupid <<
At this point we have to ask whether she will actually run. After that the speculation becomes almost like predicting the Stock Market (you might know where it will go, but you can’t know where it will go after that..)
Don’t be concerned.
>>Shes young. She can wait until 2016 or 2020 no matter what.<<
If Gov. Palin doesn’t run in 2012, it shows some shrewdness (IMHO). If she doesn’t run in 2016/20 depending on who wins it would be a sadness.
Gosh you’re considerate to offer such helpful advice.
Krauthammer doesn’t know anything. Here’s someone who actually does...

We need to look at the very real probability Gov. Palin won’t run.
I think Mr. Cain is an excellent candidate (irrespective of Gov. Palin’s intentions), but now is the time to look at the field and make some internal decisions.
You keep looking. Don’t stop.
In fact, go look now ok? :)
>And when she declares she is not running, what will you label people who said she will?
Actually that is a good use of the asking to disprove a negative rhetoric.
so, when she declares she IS running, what will you label people who said she would not?
We can’t wait until 2016 or 2020 - Obama will have decimated our country into a 3rd world hellhole by then.
Would she want the enormous task of cleaning up an epic mess, like 20% unemployment, food riots, 20% interest rates, $10.00 per gallon gas (when available and rationed)
Because that’s what Obama’s “legacy” will be - the guy who broke America.
By then, I’ll be lounging on a beach out of the country, enjoying retirement, if SS is still solvent.
