Rand Paul appears to have weathered the political storm he stirred up in Kentucky, and Carly Fiorina has gained a solid lead over Tom Campbell in the California GOP primary fight.

(AP Photo/Ed Reinke) In Kentuckys Senate race, a Courier-Journal and WHAS11 Bluegrass Poll shows Paul, a first-time candidate and son of Texas Rep. Ron Paul, with a modest lead over Democratic Attorney General Jack Conway a week after his remarks raising questions about part of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The GOP Senate candidate holds a six-point lead, 51% to 45%, in the race to replace retiring Sen. Jim Bunning.
The telephone poll, conducted May 25-27 by SurveyUSA, has an error margin of 4.2 percentage points and is in line with a poll last week by the liberal Daily Kos conducted by Research 2000, which had Paul up by three points, 44%-41%
In California, a Los Angeles Times/USC poll less than two weeks ahead of the June 8 primary found that Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, now has a strong lead over former U.S. Rep. Campbell, 38% to 23%. State Assemblyman Chuck DeVore came in at 16%. A March poll had Campbell narrowly ahead.
Still, the latest poll showed that Campbell appears to have the best chance of defeating Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer in November. In a Campbell-Boxer matchup, Campbell came out seven points ahead, but in a Fiorina-Boxer matchup, Boxer led by six points.
The poll offered good and bad news for Republican Meg Whitman, who is running for governor. Whitman, the former eBay CEO, leads her GOP primary opponent, Steve Poizner, a businessman and Californias insurance commissioner, 53% to 29%.

Ever considered it could be that male voters see Boxer as a total, well you know, and could very well see Fiorina the same way.
Boxer and Fiorina differ in politics but they don’t really differ with personality. It might not make a difference with female voters but men generally don’t like voting for women they perceive to be as b’s and for better or worse both Fiorina and Boxer are seen that way.
You may have a point. Seems rather unfair though to judge all female candidates that way. We know Boxer is indeed a b—— based on experience. We shouldn’t assume Fiorina just by being ambitious and strong is also a terror. Not sure what her reputation at HP was.
He’s perceived as a moderate, therefore he can attract conservative democrats and independents.
Pro Abortion.
Probably so. But I'm astonished anyone even knows who Campbell is. He's running no commercials, is rarely seen in interviews or other media and ran an utterly feckless, under the radar campaign against Feinstein back in 2000 and has been off the scene since. He was only in Congress a short time too and a decade ago. The fact he's running no adds now and his previous sleepy campaign against Feinstein tells me he'd run another totally flacid general election campaign which will allow Boxer to waltz right back into re-election with no problem. Academics generally make poor candidates as Campbell is proving with his current energyless primary campaign and as shown in his past efforts.
She nearly destroyed HP and her idea to mearge compaq and HP was an unmitigated disaster and both brands of computers suffered.
She was also famous being in support of outsourcing and this quote...(which will surely be dragged into the race)”I don’t believe that Americans have a God given right to a job” when being asked about her outsourcing plans while she was at HP!
The link goes to the Wall Street Journal but the source at the top reads: “The LA Times”.
Do you think Americans have a God given right to a job?
No, but I bet a lot of the votes in California aren’t going to be pleased with that quote when it is inevitably ceaselessly-replayed on television and radio by Boxer after Fiorina wins the nomination.
It was impolitic and the tone of voice she used was arrogant and dismissive. The point is, while technically one should have marketable skills and be known as a hard worker and the employer should be able to balance its profits with the need to hire the best workers they can for as cheaply as they can, there is a need also for country loyal companies! Fiorina is a globalist and in a recession her words of disdain for the American worker will come back to haunt her!
In addition to the outsourcing issues, her words were spoken at the time when H1B’s were being requested by the bushel full because they could be hired cheaply over Americans. Indeed it was claimed there weren’t enough qualified Americans to do the specialized work though it was really all about not hiring Americans who weren’t willing to fill the high tech positions at 30k per year.
Fiorina may be potentially the best of the lot but she is going to have to overcome the animus of all those former hp and compaq techworkers laid off by her!
“But why him?”
He is campaigning and wants to be seen as fiscal conservative and social moderate.
That is probably how the majority of California voters describe themselves.
Were you one of them? I’m not trying to be snippy, honestly..I’m curious.
I’m not a globalist and I don’t like our jobs shipped over seas....but I blame our government more for creating the regulatory climate that forced a lot of our manufacturing overseas. It wasn’t the higher wages...it was the red tape!
I’m an RN by trade and we used the good HP veridian based monitor systems for our patients until HP stopped supporting it and sold it’s medical monitor tech systems and support to phillips which then supposedly went then to GE(Obama’s peeps). Hp medical tech and support all went away under Fiorina!
I think you’re correct on all counts.
And why shouldn’t he be? It is precisely because he isn’t another glib, Ken-doll candidate that he is winning.
