Having fun with Philip Klein -- whose pre-emptive doubts about Sarah Palin show that he is quite obviously not a real American -- I noticed that Hot Air's Allahpundit (also often accused of inauthenticity for doubting Palin) re-Tweeted this message from his friend:
I just hope you supporters of Brown, once he is elected, remember your support when you're calling him RINO (or worse)
That would be Massachusetts Senate candidate Scott Brown, whose online "money-bomb" fundraiser Monday reportedly raised $1.3 million. In the interest of clarifying why many pro-Palin conservatives are enthusiastically supporting an un-Palin candidate like Brown, consider the following arguments:
1. Wresting Ted Kennedy's former seat from the Democrats would be a major coup for Republicans, contributing to the clear evidence of an anti-Obama backlash represented by the New Jersey and Virginia gubernatorial victories in November.
2. The situation in Massachusetts is quite unlike last year's congressional election in New York's 23rd District, where the state GOP hand-picked liberal Republican Dede Scozzafava when (a) district voters clearly would have supported a more conservative candidate; (b) the state GOP passed over more conservative candidates to choose Scozzafava; and (c) a viable third-party candidate presented a valid alternative to the Republican.
3. The label "RINO" (Republican In Name Only) functions appropriately as an epithet when it is reserved for those Republicans who either (a) provide crucial votes for liberal policies in key legislative battles, such as the eight House Republicans who voted for the Waxman-Markey energy tax bill; (b) consistently position themselves as prominent advocates for liberal policies; or (c) attack conservatives in the manner of John McCain's February 2000 "agents of intolerance" speech.(continued)

Nevermind that Brown opposes Obamacare, opposes tax-payer funding of abortion, and supports abortion restrictions.
It's not in my top 5 issues...when survival of the Republic is at stake.
In supporting Scott Brown (as in supporting Mitt Romney), even the most rabid conservatives go from 0% representation in the House or Senate, to maybe 25% representation.
Martha Coakley is no friend of conservatives, and will reliably vote against their interests 100% of the time.
In Massachuetts, it is not a matter of getting what you want, it is a matter of avoiding what you absolutely DON’T want.
A good rip-roaring negative contest just might work. Martha has, on balance, far more negatives than Scott.
TEA PARTAAAAYYYYYY!
I liked Brown in the debate last night. I thought he showed great testicular fortitude.
He opposes Obamacare and federal funding of abortion. If he becomes a RINO, we can always field a conservative candidate to replace him in 2012. That's good enough for me.
No crap. In “normal” times, I believe it would be an important issue, but as you said, the foundations of our Republic are being attacked. It doesn’t sound like he is a rabid pro-abort, but sticking with the status quo. Not my favorite position, but the ability to worry about the legality of abortion will be moot if Obamacare is rammed down our throats.
Who will Mr. Brown regard as his enemies—conservatives or liberals? Even if he can’t push any conservative positions himself, if he regards liberals as his enemies, he should be welcomed as a friend to conservatives. Conversely, one who regards conservatives as enemies should be treated in kind, regardless of how he votes on issues.
That's where I am. It's a 10th Amendment issue and the Feds have NO BUSINESS addressing at all.
Until, or unless, there's a Constitutional Amendment addressing abortion...I believe it rests squarely with the states.
Some will choose to allow this evil practice, some will not. Most would restrict it substantially.
Roe v Wade was HORRIBLE Constitutional law.
That said, if social conservatives make it their main issue, as is their choice, I wish they would address it in those terms. Overturn Roe by putting in place Judges who will see it as unconstitutional...and then fight the good fight in the state house.
It's a non-sequitor in most of the politics on the ground today. You need a President that will appoint the right judges...and you need a Senate that will approve those judges who will rule based on the CONSTITUTION, without regard for their personal beliefs on the matter.
Bump for later reading
Me too.
Another good post. Thanks
In supporting Brown, we are indeed taking a chance that we are empowering the next John McCain or Lindsey Graham to hijack the party and stall the conservative advance. He will be wooed by the media, the lobbyists, the opposition party with press ops, pork, committee postions and outright payola to turn on us. If he is indeed a closet socialist, he will be held up by the MSM as one of the mouthpieces of the national party to give bipartisan cover to the their agenda.
That being said, the RiNO’s in safely republican states seem to be the hardest to get rid of. With no conservative support, he’d be pretty vulnerable to a Dem challenger. If he needs to be put down, we can just step aside and let the other side do the dirty work. I think it’s worth the risk right now. But I don’t get a vote on this one. Hoping the people of Mass will do the right thing.
I am just glad I don’t have to vote in this election. It would be very difficult to vote for someone who is not pro-life. People always say that politicians who vote for abortion rights should not go to communion. I think that people who vote for a politician who is not completely pro-life should not go to communion either. Both are a sin period.
Wow. Not even in your top five issues. It is my ultimate issue. I can’t imagine not caring about killing babies. People are certainly different that is for sure.
Good for you. Well said. I expected you to be one of those “screaming” he’s pro-abort. Just about every candidate or elected Republican will have one area where they disappoint the people ready to scream “RINO!!”, but this isn’t the time to make some point, when the future of the Western World is literally on the line.
I will never wash this keyboard again!
