Theres speculation on the US site, VP Watch, this evening that Barack Obama might be considering the former general and 2004 contender for the presidential nomination - Wes Clarke - for the VP slot.
This is the report: Gen. Wes Clarks slogan Securing Americas Future is the theme for the night Barack Obamas running mate is scheduled to speak at the Democratic National Convention.
Clarks political action committee is called WESPAC Securing Americas Future.
It could just be a coincidence. After all, Clark appeared to dash his hopes of running with Obama in late June when he said getting shot down in Vietnam did not qualify John McCain to be president.
But if Obama believes Clark has strong enough military credentials to snipe at McCain effectively, he might still be in the mix.
On Monday, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and Obama adviser Anita Dunn announced the themes for the various nights of the convention, including Securing Americas Future for the third night, when the vice presidential candidate will speak.
Given McCains strong military connections Wes Clark seems to make a lot of sense - reinforcing Obamas position in an area where hes vulnerable.
Wes Clark, a Rhodes Scholar who was at Oxford, commanded Operation Allied Force in the Kosovo War during his term as the Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO from 1997 to 2000.
Me too. Only John Edwards would be a worse pick.
Wesley Clark is an apple shining jerk.
That or he thinks the American public is stupid enough to vote for that ticket.
Yea, go ahead an pick Weaselly Cluck!
Michael Moore to Wesley Clark: Run!
A Citizen's Appeal to a General in a Time of War (at Home)
Dear General Wesley Clark,
I've been meaning to write to you for some time. Two days after the Oscars, when I felt very alone and somewhat frightened by the level of hatred toward me for daring to suggest that we were being led into war for "fictitious reasons," one person stuck his neck out and came to my defense on national television.
And that person was you.

I'll Be Voting For Wesley Clark / Good-Bye Mr. Bush
Many of you have written to me in the past months asking, 'Who are you going to vote for this year?'
I have decided to cast my vote in the primary for Wesley Clark. That's right, a peacenik is voting for a general. What a country!

"The Iraqis who have risen up against the occupation are not 'insurgents' or 'terrorists' or 'The Enemy.' They are the REVOLUTION, the Minutemen, and their numbers will grow -- and they will win. Get it, Mr. Bush?"
[actual quote from Michael Moore (2004). It still appears on his website]

My Vote's for Obama (if I could vote) ...by Michael Moore
Friends,
I don't get to vote for President this primary season. I live in Michigan. The party leaders (both here and in D.C.) couldn't get their act together, and thus our votes will not be counted.
So, if you live in Pennsylvania, can you do me a favor? Will you please cast my vote -- and yours -- on Tuesday for Senator Barack Obama?

The Communist Party USA (CPUSA):
"We are a party of unity in action. We are an integral part of every struggle and movement for change to eliminate poverty and joblessness, against racism and for full equality. We are participants, initiators and leaders of every movement to make life better now and much better in a socialist future." Yeah, so they supported an oppressive dictator, like the Repubs and Democrats haven't? The CP is still around, has apologized for that whole Stalin thing, and has a quickly growing youth section.

I disagree (but not strongly). I was wondering about Wes as VP a few months ago. He would add symbolic “cred” to a campaign that is all symbolism over substance. The Dems feed on this sort of stuff.
Only problem here is that Clark and McCain were on the exact same sheet of music on Kosovo. Freepers and others would be left to fight this one alone, as usual.
Every messiah should have a little general.
Obama steals all of his best lines from others without attribution.
I don’t think it means anything.
Anyways, I though the Democrat Convention themes were as follows:
MONDAY: Airing of Grievances
TUESDAY: Taxation and Redistribution
WEDNESDAY: Sex and Amorality
THURSDAY: Retreat and Unilateral Disarmament
We can only hope!
Didn’t Obama kick him off his campaign or at least rebuke him?
With the current events in Georgia, it’s good to know the Democrats are eager to give Weasley Clark a second chance to start WWIII by bombing Russian VDV paratroopers.
Ah yes, Weasely Clark, your quintessential lefty military man. Lemme guess, Obama wanted military experience now that he has “foreign” experience making a fool of himself in Berlin and Israel, now he wants the “tough military” vote as well.
Unfortunately, Clark is so far left, he just happens to be a general.
i would love it if he were to choose wes clark!
I might be wrong, but my gut feeling is Obama will take Evan Bayh.
We should encourage this...
