The Warner administration today revised revenue projections, suggesting that the state could have a budget surplus of more than $1.2 billion for lawmakers to spend.
Gov. Mark R. Warner, who recently said the expected surplus would be about $919 million, told assembly leaders that they could have an additional $230 million to $290 million because of a red-hot state economy.

An extra billion. Considering Northern Virginia is the primary source of these funds, you'd think there would be at least one major transportation project in NOVA.
I think the environmentalists managed to get the Dulles metro expansion pushed back to 2018.
For a place filled with well-educated, affluent folks, they sure have screwed the pooch on transport.

The Pubbies should eliminate the Warner $1.2 billion tax hike on the basis of this news.

Some would like to try. But the House traitors and the RINOs in the Senate are the ones who pushed it thru to begin with.

Was wondering about that myself. Since we have a Balanced Budget Amendment, the LIbs choices are - 1) Spend it, or 2) Give it back.
Any bets?

Then it's time for some primary challenges, and if you're not successful at first (we weren't in Wisconsin after tossing the Senate majority "leader" who deep-sixed TABOR), lather, rinse and repeat....

I think it depends on what we say to do with it. And they better start listening.

I was not aware of that. I know Sam Nixon. He used to be my delegate (before reapportionment). I just sent him the following:
With all due respect Sam, what the heck are you doing proposing a tax INCREASE???
With the budget surplus, you guys ought to be fighting to the death to give us our money back that Warner and Chichester took fraudulently.
But now I see you co-sponsoring an increase with one of last year's 17 traitors. [Preston Bryant]
I don't care what the reasoning is. The state has too much of the people's money.
And I'm very disappointed that you want to take even more. I won't forget it.

Good old Warner is smelling like a rose, isn't he? It doesn't matter what he promised or which taxes he raised, he gets to relish the surplus as his accomplishment. That will get him through the next campaign as a fiscally conservate democrat. There are plenty of RINOs who will go along with it, too, because of the wonderful surplus we have. ... short, short memories.

Just sent to Delegates Nixon and Bryant:
Delegates Nixon and Bryant,
I was disappointed to find that you were the sponsors of HB 2880, which imposes a tax on a variety of telecommunications. With the Commonwealth currently running a 1.2 billion dollar budget surplus, it is time for our elected officials to think about giving back to the citizens of Virginia rather than think of new and more creative ways of extracting revenue. It is our money, after all.
Very Respectfully,
Doohickey

The Warner administration today revised revenue projections, suggesting that the state could have a budget surplus of more than $1.2 billion for lawmakers to spend. I'm sure they meant "for lawmakers to return to the taxpayers."

What's this "they have to spend" crapola???????
When are these people going to remember the fact it is our money, not theirs?
End my screaming, because I know I'm just preaching at the choir.....my apologies.

I hope he responds to you.
I can't believe ANYONE is proposing increased taxes on anything in Virginia this year..except of course tobacco, but that is a foregone conclusion that anything Philip Morris wants, Philip Morris will get. Even if it means closing down another Virginia company.
