Hey, unbelievable..... the silly Browns actually W-O-N I went to Nashville to the Titans game today and had a great time. But one drawback about going to the game is that you usually miss the rest of the games. On the way home I was listening to a Seattle - St. Louis game which was really going down to the wire. I ran to the TV in hopes that it would be on, but instead was an equally exciting game between Cleveland and SF. I watched our local boy, Kelly Holcomb, pull that game out of the hat with a high throw to the back of the endzone. Wow! What a thriller. Congrats on the win!

You were exceptionally well organized and the preparations paid off. As I'd read your posts about what you had accomplished and what you had left to do, it reminded me of preparing for a White Out Blizzard or Serious Ice Storm.
From reports you are hearing on the news, are you aware of others who still are without electricity?

One fact that seems to escape many people is that if you are preparing for one emergency-type situation, then you are prepared for any and all such events. If you prepare for a hurricane that doesn't come your way, then you're all set for the next ice storm or tornado or whatever. The very nature of the preparedness supplies is that they are non-perishable.
That seems so obvious to me that I don't understand why it seems to go over so many heads ..... even a lot of conservative heads.

Nice to read the report of your activities. Glad you've finally been reconnected to electricity.
Was wondering about the flood levels of the Great Falls area. Read today that the southern branch of the Potomac was rising rapidly. How far above the Falls are you?

Have you heard from Daryl and his family yet? Are they ok?

Yes, kay... was finally able to get through on the phone to him yesterday. An email today indicated they got their power on yesterday... quite a bit earlier than Chairman. Their phones were not working but they had little damage. All are OK there, thankfully.
Sorry you haven't heard from your daughter but at this point I believe no news is good news... but, as Purdue Pete and others have experienced, a simple phone call to relieve the anxiety would go a long way.
Have had my gd here for the weekend again. She's a delight and we've had a good time. Went Christmas shopping yesterday... that's a first for me this early in the year, but it was fun.

I don't think daughter-child can call ..... she's the type who would want to talk about what she's been through. If I'm right about their only having portable phones, then as long as her power is out, she won't be able to use the phone either.
I have a lot of confidence that if something were seriously wrong, she would have found a way to contact us so I'm not too worried ..... but I will feel better when we are back in communication. At least she has a husband now and isn't dealing with this alone ...... :-)

Thanks guys! Not because he is our Grandson, but because is it the truth - SUPER neat young man! Married to Katie, two beautiful GreatGranddaughters for us :-) Kylene and McKayla. He is a computer genius - Bank of America in the Bay Area. Gen X but so conservative :-) Don't know how he will log on, but he will be an asset to Anerica the Right Way. Thanks for your help guys....love and hugs, Bev&Larry

I'm starting to get prepared again. I just ordered frozen peaches, strawberries, and boysenberries. My wheat/powdered milk/honey supply is still top-notch, but after I get moved, I am going to go through the canned goods and make my plans. Working in MA and CT for five months this year, and then getting laid off really put a dent into things.

I agree with your comments about being prepared for disasters. One can be so more self-sufficient if preparedness is a way of life. And the disasters don't have to be nature made either, they can include out of work situations, illnesses, etc.

Mozie, what a beautiful tribute to a unique young man.
You realize, I know, that all of his interaction with his friends and family during his two year battle was his way of protecting them, easing their pain and helping them to accept what he had accepted.
Jeff's life was lifted in prayer during the Prayers for the People in CA this morning. May God bless all those who loved Jeff with peace and the consolation of His love.

My seven year old niece just started taking horseback riding lessons. She's been doing really well, up to her fourth lesson last Wednesday night. She got bucked off the horse. :( My sister-in-law said she was proud of her though, she hung on through five bucks. She got a good number of bruises and a concussion. And a hank of her hair got caught somewhere on the saddle and was yanked out. I told my brother he was raising a tough little girl. Too bad she got bucked off the horse. I'm just glad she wasn't trampled.

105 seems a tad too hot for playing football...
OTOH, I suppose 10 degrees prolly seems to cold for other teams to come HERE and play football............
...so....
No excuses. They just played lousy.

Yooohoo! Power came back on at 10:20 tonight!
God punished the People's Republic of Bethesda, Maryland, or my block, at least, with a 4:20 meltdown on Thursday afternoon. Otherwise had a blast during the storm. Nicollo's story coming tomorrow. Got about a thousand spams to get through tonight to get to my real email.
Glad folks fared well, despite some Edison-deprivation.

I'm glad to hear you are OK. (Personally, I'd kinda like a meltdown without any power. I could get lots of reading done. and other stuff too.)
