Our Texas Locale page recently got very busy on the unusual topic of Ouija boards and such. Archy suggested a Lone Star Thread That Will Not Die. Like those darn Hobbit threads with 30,000+ posts.
This is not my thread and I'm not going to baby sit it every day. I just gathered the kindling and y'all have to start the fire.
TOPICS: Chit/Chat
KEYWORDS: banglist; borad; chat; humidity; ouijibored; stiflingheat; texas

Perhaps we need to open the thread with an appropriate song or two? I have heard Yellow Rose of Texas performed on the bagpipes. I reckon I could pick it out on my banjo....

My husband just came home with the latest TEXAS MONTHLY mag. It lists the best BBQ places. Most are around Austin. My favorite is Angelos in Ft. Worth, and Bryans in Clute. Well, sort of. The best Texas BBQ I ever had was at Austin's, in Dallas, which shut down a bit more than a year ago. I'm a-gonna miss that place....

Anyone have any stories or pictures of the lights in Marfa Texas? That's a real spooky place to go through on a motorbike at night. The night the lights got wierd for me, they were slowly circling, and I figured a twister was in the works. Only thing is, it was a warmish evening, and I never felt the slightest breeze of wind.
Further deponent sayeth not.

Ooh, thanks for the recommendations -- all of those places look great! I'll definitely go with one of your suggestions. I'm the "planner" in my family, so I always get the fun job of making decisions AND trying to please everybody. Thanks again for helping me!

Great idea you had, archy! Well, better'n clogging up the chalkboard on the Texas homepage with Ouija board yarns, though I left one of my own there. I've got to admit to being a pretty sorry example of Texian, though- I was neither born in nor graduated from high school in the Lone Star State, and I've been resident and working in the Memphis, Tennessee area for the last 5 years or so.
But I really loved it around Ft Worth and Cleburne, and my heart's still there. Hope that counts. Work got a little thin for me in those parts when the ATSF railroad shops in Cleburne turned out the lights.

Does Texas have a official State Question? Huh? Huh? that would be: *Howdy! Where'bouts you folks from?
Often offered to non-Texans with no front license plates, but sometimes to those from other corners of Texas as well. And often heard at gatherings, such as gun and dog shows and high school footbal sectionals.

In the mid '70's there were several sightings in south Texas. It wasn't called the chupacabra then. Only later did we hear that term. Might have been this feller, first sighted around San Antonio College:

SA my favorite place to get away to. Going shopping one day this week in SM. Just wondering because I would like to start a chapter here. Sometimes I go to Austin events and have tried to make Houston a few times but things come up. Both really too far away for me to be active.

I saw that article. It was so bloated (pun intended). I try to stay away from the fast food places but when I do, I get a kids meal. Do you know FFRs can supersize those too? And if that's not enough they try to sell you an apple pie and if you say yes then they want you two buy two of them.

I need some advice from my fellow Texans on where to stay this summer around Port Aransas I have an Uncle David there who owns a pair of shrimp boats..
the Wampus and the Daguerro.. it's rough work but it pays well
and you get to eat a lot of shrimp! You have to get up at 0400 though...
