Lone Star Chat
Texas ^ | Saturday, May 10, 2003 | A Texan

Rally for America!

Our Texas Locale page recently got very busy on the unusual topic of Ouija boards and such. Archy suggested a Lone Star Thread That Will Not Die. Like those darn Hobbit threads with 30,000+ posts.

This is not my thread and I'm not going to baby sit it every day. I just gathered the kindling and y'all have to start the fire.

I'm assuming thats probably a joke. :-) I've never heard of the birdman before. I have heard of the chupacabra in South Texas though.

I was just kind of surprised that you did. I didn't take you for a CM fan.

Both Rose and I are! LOL, haven't I mentioned that before? Oh, well. But, I'm afraid I don't recognize your lyrics off the top of my head...

Ahem.... Some of them hobbit thread people are from Texas, perhaps if you were friendly-like, they'd help you learn how keep a conversation going! (hint, serve up the good cheer in pints!)

What about the NES thread. We are over 50000 :')

I'm assuming thats probably a joke. :-) I've never heard of the birdman before. I have heard of the chupacabra in South Texas though.

In the mid '70's there were several sightings in south Texas. It wasn't called the chupacabra then. Only later did we hear that term. I saw this with my aunt. I was pregnant with my first child and we were both stone cold sober on her back porch talking about having babies. There had already been sightings in south San Antonio and we had made fun of these for the duration of the time they were reported. It was night but it was well lit by the moon. Behind their house were several acres of pasture where they kept horses. We saw the thing rise from the pasture and fly toward us. There was an awning over the porch. The thing flew so low that it's feet barely cleared the awning. We sat and stared at where it had been and then at each other for several seconds before we could think what to say. Of course the next morning no other family members believed us.

How DID the topic of Ouija boards get started anyway? All I remember is Stephen DeVoy fouled our Texas page and next thing you know we were talking about evil spirits and such. Hmmmm. . .

Sounds like a logical progression to me.

My husband just came home with the latest TEXAS MONTHLY mag. It lists the best BBQ places. Most are around Austin. My favorite is Angelos in Ft. Worth, and Bryans in Clute.

Steak places? I can't wait to hear the answers here.

My husband makes the best steaks. Last night he made T-bones and Ribeyes. He marinates them, then grills them outside. He makes wonderful strip steaks and filet mignon too.

Tony's in Houston is where I had my best steak, but it is too expensive to go there often.

Eat Up!

It's great to see y'all did something with that kindling I provided.

I guess with this type thread there is no end or beginning to the day. I don't know how, or if, this will affect our Daily Chatter thread over at our Houston Chapter forum.

There is some rain in the ArkLaTex area as I write this. I hope, I hope, I hope it makes its way to Houston.

Thanks for coming to play and I hope you enjoy your visits. This was a one time ping because you replied to opening day. Thar ain't no list.

Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we’ll sing a victory tune
We’ll all meet back at the local saloon
We’ll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses

Some damn Yankees don't know good Texas food when they see it, but all that being said, there's nothin' finer than good Tex-Mex.

I have the good fortune of my brother marrying a Texas girl, so I've been redeemed.

Cinco-De-Mayo?... Isn't that about the load of Mayonnaise going down with the Titanic? *Grins*

Can I get your recipe?

Anyone have any stories or pictures of the lights in Marfa Texas?

I used to live down the road from Marfa in Alpine.. some folks
from the university used to take a cessna out at night and overfly the lights
in the desert and drop bags of flour out to mark the locations.
They were never able to find the flour-bursts in the daylight.
