Since the Vietnam War, whenever the U.S. is engaged in a conflict that stretches beyond the time allotted to it by the media, they call it a quagmire. The time frame that qualifies a conflict as a quagmire, has been getting progressively shorter.
This pattern reached truly ridiculous proportions during the brief war in Afghanistan, which was dubbed a quagmire after about two weeks. And in the case of the war in Iraq, it took about seven days for the naysayers to start intoning the "Q" word. Now, a Google Search using the words "Iraq+quagmire," produces nothing less than 15,900 results.
Meanwhile, back in reality, were in the 17th day of this war and making remarkable progress. But you certainly wouldnt know it to listen to the Chicken Little media, for whom the sky is always falling. In fact, the term quagmire is more applicable to the liberal media, than it is to our troops in Iraq. Perhaps thats why the whining seems to increase in direct proportion to the success of this campaign. The questions being asked of Secretary Rumsfeld and General Meyers by the press, are a testament to their enduring negativity.
Perhaps the reason for all the doom and gloom is that the liberal media, on a subconscious level, doesnt really want the U.S. to win this war. For victory in Iraq would be a success for the Bush administration, something that in their view, must be avoided at all costs. But they seem to be forgetting that a U.S. military failure would be a disaster for them as well. Somehow, theyve reached a level of disassociation that is downright suicidal. If anyone is at risk of falling into a quagmire, its the liberal media, who seem to be collapsing under the weight of their own pessimism.
If tens of thousands of American soldiers were to somehow be killed today, there would be a lot of media types overjoyed.
A: Sad to say, in the eyes of millions, that is exactly what we've become. Coalition forces may eventually overthrow Saddam's regime, but that won't end it. The resulting ... quagmire (( link )) --- caused by a U.S. occupation of Iraq could easily plunge the whole region into chaos and destabilize the world.
Q: I'm feeling sick to my stomach. What should we do now?
A: Try not to throw up on the sofa. And put your faith in God. God's purpose in allowing these terrible events is to expose the utter failure of human leadership. Those who sincerely long for righteousness and justice can then be led back to him, where they will be taught to live in true peace and tranquillity forever.

They hate Bush & Friends, all right, but the great fear of the leftists is the prospect of a confident, effective America reshaping the future in its own image, while the socialist states they adore fade to irrelevency.
But they seem to be forgetting that a U.S. military failure would be a disaster for them as well.
Probably not. In general, American failure equates to leftist success. Their ultimate goal is to relive their great victory in VietNam, where America was bloodied and humiliated. Despite the improved PR efforts of today's leftists -- who claim unconvincingly to be "patriotic" and to "support the troops" -- little has really changed.
