Perhaps the reason for all the doom and gloom is that the liberal media, on a subconscious level, doesn’t really want the U.S. to win this war. For victory in Iraq would be a success for the Bush administration, something that in their view, must be avoided at all costs.

If tens of thousands of American soldiers were to somehow be killed today, there would be a lot of media types overjoyed.

They hate Bush & Friends, all right, but the great fear of the leftists is the prospect of a confident, effective America reshaping the future in its own image, while the socialist states they adore fade to irrelevency.

But they seem to be forgetting that a U.S. military failure would be a disaster for them as well.

Probably not. In general, American failure equates to leftist success. Their ultimate goal is to relive their great victory in VietNam, where America was bloodied and humiliated. Despite the improved PR efforts of today's leftists -- who claim unconvincingly to be "patriotic" and to "support the troops" -- little has really changed.
