Slip-up causing slip on charts for Chicks
04/03/2003
By MARIO TARRADELL / The Dallas Morning News
The Dixie Chicks' sales slide remains steady but hardly dramatic three weeks after lead singer Natalie Maines angered country-music fans with an anti-Bush comment she made to a London concert audience.
Home, the Chicks' Grammy-winning current album, sold 51,000 copies last week, which represents a 28 percent dip when compared with the previous week's 71,000 total. The first week after Ms. Maines' remark, it sold 124,000 copies. The disc remains at No. 1 on Billboard 's country-albums chart but has fallen out of the top 10 on the pop list.
The radio boycott of "Travelin' Soldier" on country stations and "Landslide" on the pop dial has, however, seriously impacted both songs. "Soldier," which had struck a chord with listeners because of its war-related subject matter, is already off Billboard's country-singles chart. "Landslide" plunged from No. 10 to No. 43 on the pop list and took a No. 1 to No. 11 dive on the adult-contemporary chart.
Meanwhile, in South Carolina, where the Chicks open their U.S. tour May 1 at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, an alternative-to-the-Dixie Chicks concert headlined by the Marshall Tucker Band has been planned for the same night. The gig will serve as a protest event for those banning the Chicks' music.

Celebrity Justice, a syndicated celebrity news program similar to entertainment tonight, just had a story stating that the dixie chix were still number one and were still number 1 on the country charts. They made references to "home" sill being a number one album that has sold 6 million copies.
If you go to www.billboard.com it will show the current stats.
It seems the managemet/handlers are trying to get the DC ligitimacy by calling them banned. The DC are not banned, we just don't want to hear them.

It may not mean much in their pockets, but to me it means a great deal, not spending my $20 on their music. The last album I purchased in the store was "Foo Fighter", about 7 months ago? 8? I can't remember the last one before that. I was actually going to venture out into the big scary retail world, and buy the new(-er) Coldplay album. Then Chris Martin opened his big mouth and said we would all "die if Bush gets his way". Now he won't be getting any part of my $20. I'm only one person, but then I read these stories and realize it isn't just me. :)

I'm with you cgk. I may not be preventing Julia Roberts from making payments on her mansion, but I sure am not paying to see her movies.

LOL! I didn't even mention movies. :) The last one we saw in the theaters was "A Bug's Life." The combination of one too many laser pointers and screaming TEENAGERS caused me to boycott theaters until the owners learned to kick that crap out the door. (They did refund my money, but didn't remove those animals).
That said, there are movies I did want to see in-house. Black Hawk Down being one. Instead, hubby brought home a nice big TV with TiVO and great sound so I could enjoy it without the distractions.

Kinda disheartening that they are selling as many albums as they still are.

Good news on the ditz'. Hope the general public realizes that the ditzies need the public more than the public needs them.

And I was actually going to ask for "Home" for my birthday before Natalie Maines went Michael Moore. Now I wouldn't use their CDs for a frisbee. I even deleted the Chicks files I had on my computer.
Stevie Nicks, though--there's a classy woman! Even though she hangs out with Maines and Cheryl Crow, she has way more wisdom. (Perhaps some will rub off on them.) She is definitely one of the "good guys"! On her site, Nicks Fix, she has a wonderful letter of support for the troops! See

So, now it's a "slip-up". I guess she really didn't mean to say it?

Hubby told me Stevie Nicks was asked about how much "fun" she had at Clinton's inauguration, or wherever it is they played for him. She shrugged and said "not really." I was pretty surprised she said that, and happy she wasn't as swept up in his "charisma" I keep hearing about. He probably hit on her and she slammed him down... hehe
