A letter to President Bush from Women for a Free Iraq:

February 27, 2003

Dear President Bush:

As women from Iraq who fled our homeland to escape persecution by Saddam Hussein’s regime, we write to offer our support for your principled leadership. We applaud your determination to disarm Saddam and your commitment to help liberate the people of Iraq. We are daughters, mothers, wives, and sisters whose families and communities have suffered for too long. We stand with you because only the United States and its allies can help the people of Iraq break free from Saddam’s 34 years of brutal rule.

Those who have taken to the streets with signs reading, “No War on Iraq” are misled. It is Saddam who has been waging war on the people of Iraq. Every day that this war continues, more of our brothers and sisters will suffer from Saddam’s totalitarian and racist policies.

Thanks to your help, Mr. DJ88 now has a rental car. I should have asked for help earlier. :-) Do you have any idea how long I have been doing this little project? I'll tell ya:

I could have solved the starvation problem in Africa, told the UN to go pound (literal) sand, and I could have gotten George W. Bush re-elected.

Have any of you fine ladies ever heard of Sissel??? Apparently she is a really fine vocal talent from Norway...and was involved in the Titanic soundtrac....I am usually skeptical, but she really uses her voice as an instrument....(sappy-sounding, I know, but she is tremendous ;-))

PBS's News Hour didn't show the Hildebeast on the abortion segment, just Feinstein. Makes one wonder...

Oh, Feinstein (I hope I spelled that wrong) came out for legalization of all sexual behavior -- not that this is not a practical reality in California, already. She said the government has no business telling her what to do with her reproductive organs. I'll have to check up on California laws against beastiality. Maybe there are none, what with some of the beasts in Hollywood... Somehow, I'm certain that even California controls what goes into Feinstein's... xxxx. I do not mean to be vulgar. She's the vulgar one.

Happier thoughts:

Saw our mailman today for the first time since I got back from Miami. He's a classic, and, it seems, famous over at the Postal Service. Let's just say that management hates him. Our snow storm hit on a Sunday. He didn't bother with Monday, and he tried but couldn't get very far on Tuesday. He only completed his route late Wednesday evening, going several hours longer than it usually takes.

Imagine what he put up with: no room for the truck, as the plows only came through once before Thursday, making only enough room for one car to pass. Many houses hadn't even shovelled their walks. Even with those that did, he had to walk double the distance because he could only walk up and down the paths, not across lawns as he usually does. On top of that, he had to deliver three day's mail, including Monday's which is usually the largest of the week.

He was just doing his job. Right? Right. And then some.

Remember the anthrax attacks? Would you have enjoyed delivering the mail back then, especially on a route within the distribution of a facility that had been hit with it? During it all I left on the porch a six-pack of good brew & a note saying "God Bless the Postman!" When I got home, only the note was there.

I never got around to reporting the missing goods to the police.

Sorry for the delay in answering. I just returned from supper. I did take your advice and e-mailed the Women of Iraq with the suggestion that they submit the letter to the editorial pages of major American newspapers. I also told them that I support the liberation of the Iraqi people and my prayers are with them that this happens soon.

The Magnolia flower is a common symbol in public buildings here in DC, especially in the mosaics and paintings in the ceilings of the Capitol. My understanding is that the flower represents perseverance.

I'd like to know why it so represents. Do you or anyone know why?
