Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

How much does a laser rangefinder cost?
It depends on make, model, and features.
http://www.cabelas.com/ has several brands on sale right now. The Bushnell models, for instance, range (no pun intended) from $155 to $400. They also carry Leica, which tends to be very expensive.
Another good source is
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/. I'm sure there are lots of other online sources, as well as larger gunshops and sporting goods stores.
Oh, and for anybody who shops online a lot, I recommend
http://www.ebates.com/. It's a rebate service, and over 500 online stores belong. If you enter a store through the ebates portal, you get a rebate of varying percentages for shopping at that store. Using ebates, and Sportsmans Guide's "buyer's club" 10% discount, I get a total of 15% off their online price. The ebates rebate is paid by check quarterly. Whenever I shop online, I check ebates first.

Did Bear check in with a report from the Austin Mini-Moot?Who said that? ;)
Yes, we had fun! Hair has already pointed you to my post, so I won't.
Some thoughts and observations on my third viewing...
I like Faramir more each time I see him. He's very thoughtful and observant... speaking of observant, I finally noticed that he's wearing the white tree with seven stars on his breastplate.
Am I alone in feeling Gollum is hamming it up a bit while complaining about the Elf-rope?
While watching Theoden yell "Forth, Eorlingas!" just before his final charge from Helm's Deep, I couldn't help but think, "Boy, Pelennor Fields is going to ROCK!"
Notice how Frodo threatens Gollum with Sting at the beginning of the movie, and then threatens Sam with it at the end... I like symmetries like that.
Speaking of Gollum/Smeagol... the more I watch the movie, the easier it gets to tell when Gollum is in charge and when Smeagol is in charge.
I wonder what I'll see during my fourth viewing...?

A horribly disappointing film.I disagree completely! Loved it here, and eagerly looking forward to buying the DVD.

Did you notice that Frodo holds his sword in his left hand when he threatens Gollum, but in his right hand when he threatens Sam?
A mirror image...
I love those symmetries too.
ITA about Faramir's thoughtfulness. You can see that he really is listening and thinking hard about everything he's seeing and hearing from Sam, Frodo and Gollum. A marked contrast from his brother, that's for sure....
In my next viewing, I really want to think about Faramir being presented from Frodo's point of view...that really changes how the character comes across.

You can settle down for awhile I hope! We'll see. I am getting tired of moving.

I also like that Boromir swore to protect Frodo and when he didn't he went mad and was killed.
Gollum also has sworn to help Frodo...
Just saw the movie with my mom. Fantastic. I love Sam's speech in Osgiliath. And when he tries on "Samwise the Brave". LOL Bles him.

Penny, that is what I've maintained all along...that they projected Frodo's concerns about Faramir through Faramir.

LOL, sometimes I'm just a little slower than the rest of you... ;) But then, that gives me more things to look for each time I go see the movie.... :o

BTW, 2J, those cookies of yours are fantastic! So much for that diet I've been on for months...I can't leave 'em alone they're so darn good! Yum! It is dangerous for me to be alone in my apartment with them. ;) I'd better find someone to share with them....ASAP....

2JM: Enjoying an evening cuppa I notice, decaff I presume. Well, we get one more viewing of FOTR-ES and back it goes to Blockbuster tomorrow. Susan has made blackbean vegetable soup to slurp whist enjoying the movie. Popcorn later doubtless.
