The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Will be going to bed soon here as well... going to have a busy day tomorrow here!

Yeah, shed antlers would be nice, for sure. Is it cold in St. Louis?

Hmmm...

Have I got a touch of 2J's vertigo, or is that picture somewhat topsy-turvy?

oops!! sorry ...no...its a bit on the lopside, isnt it...but the shot is taken from a film done by Billy Boyd about an astronaut....so my guess is that the shot is deliberately set up that way. I just copied it...

don't you just love those arms???

LOL! Well, honestly, they just don't have the same appeal for me... but that's understandable!

Attention one and all! I have made a very important discovery concerning Lembas!

First, we know that when Lembas is first mentioned in The Fellowship of the Ring it was after Gimli had mistaken it for Cram. Now Cram is what the dwarves were given by the Men of Dale when they were preparing to travel to the Lonely Mountain to find the hidden door and deal with Smaug.

Lembas looked so much like Cram that at first, Gimli thought that was what it was, until he bit into it...

So, whatever Cram looks like, Lembas looks very similar.

The question is...what does Cram look like?

From The Hobbit, Chapter 13 Not At Home, Cram is described as "biscuitish". Kinda like a cookie (since the Brits call cookies "biscuits".

So I continue to maintain that Lembas is a type of thin golden cookie with a cream colored inside. Very crumbly and sweet like honey.

Now I'm already up too late, but I couldn't have slept with this tidbit of information in my brain...so I'm going to bed now.

Night!

When Legolas held it up, it looked like a flat beignet!

It was the first time I had seen it since being a HHD. And because of that I found myself thinking different thoughts.

Hehehe....you too, huh? The first time I saw TTT it was like all the HHD's came with me.

Good Morning, Master Archer!

I've got a KC question for you: do grocery stores out there stock fresh pork shoulers? I might want to make some NC barbecue sometimes.

OT: Kansas City is the "Bar-b-que Capital of the World" according to the Convention & Visitors Bureau. Having said that, there are a lot of BBQ places here. BBQ is a regional pastime with any number of competions during the year. THe big one is during the American Royal horse show in October. I would bet that finding what ever you need would not be a problem.

Is your NC BBQ the style that features pulled pork with the mustard based (yellow) sauce?
