Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Oh, forgot to add, if you're doing a double batch in a springform pan, reduce the heat to 300-325 and cook for about 45 min.
To: Lil'freeper
Oh man that sounds wonderful!! I think I'd like that pecan crust! I'll have to give it a try. Will it also with low-fat cream cheese?
To: Lil'freeper
But is sugar-free cheesecake really worth having?
The sugar substitutes (like the fat substitute stuff) really gives me gas...bad.

Never have lost them on my head(s). But I have lost them in my cargo pant's pockets.

The sugar substitutes (like the fat substitute stuff) really gives me gas...bad. Something very good to know.

But is sugar-free cheesecake really worth having? LOL, I should put you in touch with my coworkers- they're still picking their jaws up off the floor. My sugar-free cheesecake was better than the sugared up one. (we had a little contest, see.) They've teased me for months 'cuz I'd eat a nice slice with fruit for breakfast... now they know better!

Only the news you need to know.

Was Mr. Gaultier wearing any skivies under that skirt?

they're still picking their jaws up off the floor As long as they're not holding their noses, you're OK.

OK, here's one without Frodo. We were in Madame Tussaud's and when I saw Fidel and Yassir (that's my baby) next to each other I just COULDN'T resist!
Unfortunately, you can't see both of the fingers behind Fidel's head!
To: SuziQ
Should work fine with neufchatel (sp?) cheese, aka the low-fat stuff but it is higher in salt.
Pecan crust for the 8-inch pan was (iirc) 1 c pecan meal, 1-2 tbs melted butter, and 1 tsp splenda. Pressed into place and toasted lightly before putting the batter in the pan.

Sounds like a movie title.
Flipping Off Fidel.

I know what you're talking about with the sugar alcohols (sorbitol, lactitol, maltitol, etc)- they're bad news in this household. Sucralose shouldn't be as bad. It should be more like aspartame than maltitol.

Was Mr. Gaultier wearing any skivies under that skirt?I didn't think it appropriate to check with all those Girl Scouts around! ;o)
To: SuziQ
I am surprised people can get up and touch the statues.... Would have thought they'd be roped off. Aren't they easily damaged? - or are they not as soft and waxy as I think?

really gives me gas...bad. What's the problem? Aren't you the windy elf?
To: Corin Stormhands
With that stuff, it's Hurricane Elf.

Oh since we were on a chemistry kick earlier, I should add that those nasty 'sugar alcohols' have more in common with PVC, vinyl siding, and similar plastics than real sugar. They're more correctly called 'polyols'- and that makes a neat google search.
