Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Hi 2J!
I've been giving her warm Aveeno baths for over a week now, and they helped to ease the redness, but only temporarily. That's why I grew desperate enough to call the doctor and get Rx strength relief for her.
Besides the Aveeno, I've used Desitin, Balmex, Aveeno Diaper Cream, A&D Ointment, chamomile tea compresses (cool), milk of magnesia, exposure to sunlight, cloth diapers, etc. And her bottom hasn't seen a baby wipe in 2 weeks!!!

Signing off. The boys are in the back with the little pool full and it makes me nervous. Plus, I want to clip along the bottom of the fence.
See you all later!

I'm here, but since I left early on Friday and was out all day yesterday and then was out again today for over an hour delivering the "samples", I'm trying to catch up on everything here at work and in the Hole!

LOL! The butt balm is good stuff, but it's comes off WAY to easily to provide good protection.

Oh my goodness!
Now I wonder if it might be a yeast infection? Even babies can get them, esp. in the summer...

What kind of summer reading suggestions do you want, Corin? Science fiction, fantasy? I could help there, but if you want something else I can't help out.

You just called him up? - Cool!Yeah, I thought it was pretty cool too.
He was very gracious. Now if I'm out and I see one of his books I'll pick it up if I don't already have it.
Graciousness is good economics. ;^)

Well, with the Amber and the Hitchhiker series I think I'm pretty well stocked. Also have Harry Potter.
And, since I have no time to read, I think that's enough for now.
To: Corin Stormhands; carton253
Carton, if you have trouble, let me know and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I think I'm going to be online all afternoon.
Corin, that sounds like a pretty nice reading list. Let me know when you've read Harry Potter, what you think of it.

if you did, you probably forgot it. I thought it was the worst of the series...very dark humor, not at all like the others
I think he just wanted to get it over with, what with all the fans clammoring for the final installment.
bummer that he passed away before finishing The Salmon of Doubt
every read his Dirk Gently books? Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency and The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul?
Corin, if you like the Hitchhiker's series, you might want to give these 2 a try later.
To: libarian
I did read both of the Dirk Gently books! - They were good too!

I suspect the same possibility for a number of reasons. The longevity and stubborness of the rash is the main clue and the appearance of small red bumps / pustules on her bottom.
However, there is no foreign looking matter anywhere near her privates, so it's still a puzzle.
My main concern is the persistance of the diarrhea. I was in the process of switching her from formula to whole milk when the problem began, and then I took her off the whole milk and put her on soy (all the while being mixed with her regular formula..half and half). When it didn't improve, I put her back on 100% formula again and have been doing so for over 10 days now with little improvement.
I've tried giving her small amounts of rice or apples to bind her up a bit, but nothing works. The worst part culprit of the diaper rash comes from those sneaky gases. :(

Of course you didn't, silly! It's the same day as YOURS!! They just gave me an early party.
To: SuziQ
DOH! I guess that's why it was a surprise!
To: RMDupree
I'm thinking that the yeast infection is probably involving the skin only. I suspect the normal flora on her skin has been disrupted by the loose stools. Yeast infections can happen anywhere the environment is ripe, like in the folds of skin (which means even chubby infant boys can get them!) With the way you are keeping her clean, you wouldn't see a build-up of matter unless you completely neglected it for a day or two.
Something is causing loose stools, which caused a rash, which disrupted her normal flora, which might have caused a skin surface yeast infection which won't get better until you put a antifungal on it, which is almost pointless while she's having loose stools because it'll all just start over again.
You are right...you gotta break the cycle.
Have you given her any yogurt? Plain yogurt? With maybe a little sugar? Her whole insides might be out of whack as far as normal flora goes and yogurt would put it back. Get a good one...not yoplait...get Dannon's at least, with active yogurt cultures. A healthfood store would be the best place to get a really good yogurt...like Brown Cow.
Keep me posted...
