I suspect the same possibility for a number of reasons. The longevity and stubborness of the rash is the main clue and the appearance of small red bumps / pustules on her bottom.

However, there is no foreign looking matter anywhere near her privates, so it's still a puzzle.

My main concern is the persistance of the diarrhea. I was in the process of switching her from formula to whole milk when the problem began, and then I took her off the whole milk and put her on soy (all the while being mixed with her regular formula..half and half). When it didn't improve, I put her back on 100% formula again and have been doing so for over 10 days now with little improvement.

I've tried giving her small amounts of rice or apples to bind her up a bit, but nothing works. The worst part culprit of the diaper rash comes from those sneaky gases. :(

I'm thinking that the yeast infection is probably involving the skin only. I suspect the normal flora on her skin has been disrupted by the loose stools. Yeast infections can happen anywhere the environment is ripe, like in the folds of skin (which means even chubby infant boys can get them!) With the way you are keeping her clean, you wouldn't see a build-up of matter unless you completely neglected it for a day or two.

Something is causing loose stools, which caused a rash, which disrupted her normal flora, which might have caused a skin surface yeast infection which won't get better until you put a antifungal on it, which is almost pointless while she's having loose stools because it'll all just start over again.

You are right...you gotta break the cycle.

Have you given her any yogurt? Plain yogurt? With maybe a little sugar? Her whole insides might be out of whack as far as normal flora goes and yogurt would put it back. Get a good one...not yoplait...get Dannon's at least, with active yogurt cultures. A healthfood store would be the best place to get a really good yogurt...like Brown Cow.

Keep me posted...

OK - now that I've caught up on the thread.

Corin - Welcome back, Master Dwarf. A very nice entrance and an even nicer snaig! *wink* Oh, and yes, my house is the one with the mold problem which should be resolved very soon, thank goodness. The case is in final arbitration.

Ramius - thanks for checking in and letting me know you made it back safe and sound. That pic was taken at the very beginning of the evening, so no one but yellow face is to blame for those red cheeks! *grin* It was a great time, wasn't it?

Sam Cree - I wish you could have mooted for your birthday, but it sounds like you had fun without us! LOL! And as far as our real life personalities differ from our HHD ones, you may be a bit quieter in RL, but you still are funny! Remember, it was you that spotted the lurkers at the other moot!! :)

Deb - So nice to see you! Thanks for helping ease my ROTK worries. *SMILE*

ksen - mold and mildew are easily controlled with household bleach, but it does depend on how far it has spread. If you can't make direct contact with it, the bleach fumes alone aren't enough to kill it.

SuziQ - the descriptions of the Flat Frodo pics sound so cool! I've never been to NYC, so it's double the treat for me to see those pics. Sounds like your birthday was an excellent time!

Becky - prayers for Devon's quick recovery and permanent healing. He's my nephew's age, so I can only imagine what his parents must be going through. *sigh* I also took your advice about leaving Alyson naked by taking her outside in the sun a bit. She enjoyed it and now I am worried I may have tapped into her inner streaker! YIKES! I also read about you being chased by the car thieves. SCARY!

JenB - I'm so sorry to hear about your job (and Dad's). I know that almost eveyrone goes through it at least once in their life, but the good thing is that it usually leads to a big improvement. I know it worked that way for me because if I had stayed with that job, I wouldn't be happily typing away here today!

carton253 - I will now suffer terrible flashbacks from algebra class. I see "X"s where numbers should be!! AAARRRGGGHHH!! *wink*

Wneighbor - thinking of you.
