The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Too noble for compost? What kind of gardeners are they, anyway?

Frodo is held in pretty high regard around here, I think when you have been around awhile we shall see if we would ever trust you with the precious!

Trust me with it? It's Mine! Mine I tell you!

Um... I mean it's gone.

I will look into the "Journeys of Flat Frodo" soon...

I'm getting him next! Clare and I are going to NYC with her Girl Scout Troop, so we're taking Frodo along!

right in front of my (very conservative homeschooling) friend said "HEY, WHAT IS THIS CRAP? IT SMELLS LIKE SOMEBODY TOOTED!"

I suspect your very conservative homeschooling friend thought it was a hoot! She just might not have wanted to say so in front of the kids!

Yeah, but my problem is I was a lard-@$$ in high school too...

ROTFL!! That's my problem, too. I never could even use the 4 babies as an excuse! Bad habits started a LONG time ago, and I'm only now really doing something about it.

I'm still a couple hundred posts behind, and I hate to break in on the horse talk (assuming it's still going on), but someone here the other day said they were having a hard time getting the blade off a power mower. This is the handy "blade buster", and it's being closed out at www.improvementscatalog.com for $3.99. It's the red thing at the top of the picture, and holds the blade in one place by clamping the fixture to the deck of the mower.

I'd rather talk horses, but I've been cutting grass, and I feel like one of those hobbits, after Sam spread the magic Lothlorien dirt, "and everybody was happy except those who had to cut lawns". After the coldest winter in 25 years, we've had the coldest and wettest spring in 30 years. 1.6 inches of rain yesterday, clear and down into the 40s tonight. Thank you, global warming.

Those sound yummy!! I've got some blueberries in the freezer. I made SSQ a blueberry pie for Father's Day. I followed the recipe on the back of the Wyman's Blueberries bag; it was perfect!!

You saved me from a funkle!1 Thank you kindly!

I really should have mown our back yard today, but I just couldn't bring my self to get out into the air with all the 'white floaty things'! They just make me cough and sneeze and my head gets clogged up SO badly!! But beginning later tonight, we're supposed to have rain for the next 4 days! The chipmunks are beginning to get lost in the grass back there! The bunny that shows up every couple of days likes it though!

Hey, thanks for the blueberry muffin receipe. I have a pretty good blueberry buntcake receipe if you are interested though it is very high in fat...mmmmm fat.

We are going out tomorrow to pick some blueberries ourselves. There is a U Pick place about 10 min. from here. It should be a fun day, mrsnad

What is blood sugar? and what does it do? and how do you check it?

Well, I’m not sure if this could apply to horses but as I was posting about the way some epileptics feel right before and after a spell, I realized that people with hypoglycemia also feel those disturbing "light headed" and vertigo with an extreme energy loss as their sugar drops.
My grandmother, before she knew what was wrong, would go grab a candy bar or sugar drink real quick and almost "blast" out of a chair. Unhealthy yes, but she said

I'm also not sure how you would go about checking it but if your vet has been involved with this problem he would be able to tell you if it was even worth having a screen run for glucose and insulin levels.

Do you have any experience in riding bareback? If so, I would get a bareback pad so there is something to cinch around her middle then try riding her around. This might sound risky but you would be AMAZED at how much you can tell about your mounts next action by the nerve endings in your rear. <:0}
Course, I'm a nut so I would also maybe attach 10-15 pound sand sacks (pillowcases w/dirt) to a 2" strap and hang this at her whithers(sp?) to see if indeed it is possibly a "pinched nerve."

BTW, since this IS a LOTR thread, does anyone have any slow-motion shots of that stunt Legalos does with the running horse in "The Two Towers?"

Was a "SWEET" move. I can't wait to buy the DVD just to see that scene in "slow-mo."

Hi Suzi!

Just got done watching "The Amazing Race" with my family. I haven't decided how late I'm staying up tonight but I'm all keyed up over Harry Potter. You've never think I'm twenty, to see me act!

Our t-shirts are done, our outfits are planned, our lines are memorized... our money is good and our books are reserved. Wooo-hoo!

300WN: it was Overtaxed I believe, I advised her to loosen it up with Liquid Wrench and someone (maybe you) told her about the blade do-hicky you pictured.

A good fitting socket or box wrench helps, plus either elbow grease or a cheater bar. Amazing things can be done with the right sized lever. I usually end up blocking the blade with chunk of wood.

Good evening!

So, we watched Amazing Race here too... what happened to the father/son team? I have no idea how they managed to come in last!

Just adding to my previous thread. Don't mind me.

PayNoAttentionManBehindCurtain, even though I think the hypoglycimic idea has merit, used to have Quarter horse that LOVED sugar. Not just the cubes I mean Hostess Ding-Dongs, Twinkies, fruit pies, etc...

They got lost on the way to the roadblock. I thought Team GirlyMen was amusing. How they went down the wrong path for two miles... they should have come in last. There are a couple really annoying teams this time.

I'm rooting for Millie and that guy she hangs around with. Now there's a girl!
