The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I wanted a horse from the time I knew what they were. A horse is about the only thing my parents didn't get for me. We were very much "city" people:), I think they thought I would out grow it.

I only agreed to marry Mack when he promised that someday he would get me a horse:)

I was 32 before it happened. A think a phyciatrist (sp), you know head doctor:) would say when I finally got a horse is when I discovered who I was...LOL. No, really, now I can't imagine not having one. You can tell by how quick I am about not wanting to talk about them:).

I think every one should at least try the horse hobby. The best thing about it is the whole family can participate in it. Not like having a kid on the local ball team, and mom dad and siblings get to watch. Everyone can do the horse thing together.

I homeschooled the kids, and we were always doing something, trialrides, show, playdays, team pennings. It's great. My daughter and I worked on a ranch for some rich people riding their horses 2X a week to keep them in shape so that when the people came to ride them, 2X a yr., they were in shape. It was great. We each made about $300 a month doing it.Jenny was only about 13 when we started. She had a truck bought and paid for by the time she was 16.

I made a vanilla shake that was pretty good, cup of cream, 5 ice cubes, 1tsp splenda, 1 egg, 1tp van.

But I really missed chocolate:)

Same situation here.

My parents moved us down from Chicago to Miami back in '79, and I was so excited to discover we were living next to "Horse Country". My dad took me (maybe twice) to a ranch where they offered trail rides. It was dull for both me and the horse, but it was WAY better than nothing.

I'll have a horse someday, no bones about it! I'll just have you or Hair come and teach me! *grinning*

You know those Slim Fast shakes aren't too bad if you add a couple of scoops of ice cream...

Good for you...hope it happens soon. CindyDawg is starting riding lessons next week, and starting to look for her own horse.

And eating salad isn't to bad if you add a lot of bacon bits and ranch dressing! :)

"Chuckles" is really a pony, but we're not telling them that. And they only get to ride when they go down to visit my parents.

We have a poor man's substitute in the wreck room. Though I contend it's easier to be thrown from that springy thingy than it was for me with that horse that had been beaten.

LOL....I am sitting here drinking a slim fast shake as I speak:). I have always been able to loose weight and keep it off if I do the slim fast diet. I have lost 20 pounds since Feb. As long as I stick to the plan I do OK. I stayed at my goal weight for 6 yrs once. The problem is you do get tired of it. But once you get where you want, if you watch your weight like a hawk you can cheat alot. Once your weight starts creeping up to your check point then you go back on it. When I have an extremely bad cheat day, such as last night:), then the next day I have a slim fast day, where I do nothing but slim fast, 4 servings, for a whole day. That gets you back to your goal weight fast.

I've never had real success with Slim Fast. And I can't stand any of the non-chocolate flavors. I've done okay with the "Hollywood Diet." [Hair probably remembers my "exploding orange juice" story from last summer] But it's basically a two-day fast. And I have to be careful not to put the weight right back on. I just use it occasionally to break the sugar habit (which is my downfall).
