Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

The saddle, and especially weight in the saddle, could be causing a nerve to be pinched or pressed wrong, which could trigger a seizure. That's it exactly, what I think it is:)
I have been afraid to start taking her to vets, I think I could run into huge bills and still not know anything with this sort of problem. But since Mack has found all this info on the internet, we can go to vets now with some idea of the way we want to proceed. They now do chiropractics on horses, and I have seen first hand some good results on horses who have had that done. I think we may start with that to see if something is out of line.
What do you think?

Keep us posted on what you learn about her, Becky.... Is a very interesting condition. I do hope you find an answer.

I think it is worth checking out... the vet too, to poke and look for obvious things, but someone like a chiropractor who really knows backs and necks, and knows where to push to get a response could learn a lot perhaps.
I know a gorgeous and thorough and kind vet I would recommend if you wanted to bring her up.

From my experience, not really. If I know someone and see a sudden change, like very quiet, fine trembling, blank stare I know what's happening but the seizure is in progress, just not full blown yet. It happens so fast that the person having the seizure doesn't even have time to try to tell you. Some will say they see a light or note a funny smell and then nothing. They can't remember. She may very well be having seizures and since you know her you are able to pick up signs but the length of warning and her strength afterwards is what I see as unusual, but hey, you know how much experience I have with horses :')

Good morning!
I have to run now soon, half the day is over! - Meeting in an hour and I am trying to decide what to wear.
My summer clothes are a bit unsatisfying. I need to look into getting some new stuff.

I know nothing of horses, but have you ever tried riding her bareback?
That would at least give a clue as to whether it is directly related to the tack or the weight of a rider.
Maybe she is associating the saddling itself with fear from when she was broken badly. Lord knows that, unfortunately, some trainers love to cinch tight to "show the horse who's boss".

Good morning...
Typical summer day in Austin... partly cloudy, 88 degrees...

The Dell Diamond in Round Rock is getting ready for a game!

Happy Juneteenth, everyone!

Trying her bareback is one option for short rides, and that is all it really would take, since her troubles are always at the start...
Riding bareback over any distance is, while also not being as secure for the rider, can also cause different pain in the backs of horses with a back problem, as all the rider's weight sits on a small part of the horse's back, specifically on the two bones in your butt. The saddle is designed to spread the weight evenly and be more comfortable for the horse in the long haul *if* the saddle fits.

Sounds to me like there are a few Cary Grant fans around here! Have either of you heard of the Warbride board?

Well, I'm back! I would LOVE to ride this Sat!! I don't mind if it's ALL DAY! I'd love it! I could bring some gallon baggies to collect the berries in, couldn't I? And bring them back? We could take a lunch?? How should I dress?
I don't know about persimmons, but I suspect I would like them!
We got 3lbs of blueberries! Had a BLAST! Only one time, Joshua crawled under the bushes and right in front of my (very conservative homeschooling) friend said "HEY, WHAT IS THIS CRAP? IT SMELLS LIKE SOMEBODY TOOTED!"
I wanted to die.
