Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

The only laurel I had died. :( Been meaning to try again. I've rooted impatiens like that before and they've done well until the deer found them.

Yeah, we've been pinching back the blooms. We'll pinch back the leaves as well. Thanks.
To: g'nad
Very nice snaig.
To: Overtaxed
*Sniff* I hope he does okay in the Big City! We'll take good care of him. I know Hobbits are not fond of crowded places, especially those with which they are not familiar. This will not be Bree, after all!

Okay, gotta run for a few minutes.
Luke is washing his face with an ice cream sammich...
It's way past his bedtime, but this way the Mrs. gets to sleep in tomorrow as well (she works until 2:00 a.m.)
To: g'nad
Grapes? Cool!! You can make your very own wine!! The old Winyards, huh?
To: SuziQ
I'm planning on sending him tomorrow....or the next day.
It's either that or start a new roll of film. :)
To: SuziQ
I dunno... I make beer... not vino...
it's an old ardor... too small fer a vinyard... maybe a gallon or two if yer lucky...

Mmmmm...ice cream sammich

I think it's harder than we think to make wine... that's why it comes in bottles.
Well, preparing for bed... tomorrow my grandmother is staying over and taking my room, but I should be around until she goes to bed. Then Wednesday and Thursday, I'll be here most of the evening!
By the way, thought I should mention now that you guys won't see me this weekend. So don't think I'm actually dead, I'll just be away from computer Friday through Sunday night.

the lettuces are doin' wellI'm looking forward to having a nice flat yard in which to garden! We had a nice garden in NJ, and we grew Oak Leaf and Ruby Leaf Lettuce. It was just so neat to go out and pick the greens for a salad for supper!
We rented a house in W. Lafayette IN when SSQ was teaching a Purdue. The folks had a wonderful garden with asparagus!!! I'd never had fresh asparagus and it was such a treat!!

I dunno... I make beer... not vino... Well then, here's your chance to try something new!! When my Mama was a teenager, she got drunk once on her Daddy's home-brew. She said that's the sickest she's ever been! He said it served her right.

I have a gardening question. Anybody here ever propagate scented geraniums? (pelargoniums) Books say they are propagated by taking cuttings, rooting in vermiculte or sand with rooting hormone. I've tried and tried. Never worked yet.

I think they will root in water,You could try water, but I'd think they'd do better in some vermiculite which could be misted to keep damp. Heck, try it both ways! If it works, I may get you to send me some cuttings so I can try it too!
To: SuziQ
Not a bad tip, but I don't have buckets of vermiculite around (and I can't steal it from work like OT does) Does this mean I have to go to out? - I hate town! :~D
