Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Have you seen this show?Yes, we watched the first season. The show is produced by and for the cable channel Showtime. We enjoyed it. Because it is shown on a pay-cable channel, there is usually a certain amount of sexual content in each episode (enough for an R-rating) but the storyline is complex and interesting. Looking forward to the second season!

I started to get choked up a little reading near the end of "The Grey Havens", Just choked up? I blubbered like a BABY when I read the end of RoTK!! That's why I told Hair a couple of weeks ago that I'm going to need to bring a whole BOX of tissues to the theater with me when I see it.

What y'all have to understand is that the Ring Trilogy and The Silmarillion, all hardbacks, are stacked atop his computer monitor (our computers sit at right-angles to one another), and, I notice, The Return Of The Shadow is on his desk. The other books are all on our bookshelves.

it goes into the soundtrack while scrolling all the names of the LOTR fan club, Did you notice that the Hobbits are in that list? Billy, Sean, Dom and Elijah's names are all there. We also found Christoper Lee's, Ian McKellan's, and PJ and Frans names there! We didn't see Viggo, Sean, or Orly's names, and I can't remember if we looked for JRD's.

Rose said she liked hearing me read it, because she could imagine me reading to our kidsIsn't that just the sweetest thing you've ever heard?

I have 3 grandkids and would dearly love to be able to read them The Hobbit. However, the oldest lives in Oregon. She's 10 and told me on Christmas day that she wished she was here and could watch the movies with me. Have you thought about reading it aloud and taping yourself? It would take some time, but what a treat for your granddaughter to hear YOU read The Hobbit!

Caught you!
<sighing fondly>You're sooo cute ... It made me sad, as well, especially about Sam. But I loved the idea of Gimli and Legolas sailing into the West together ... the idea of Gimli becoming that elf-acceptable warms me.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
No, I was looking at all the battle scenes and obsessing over Legolas!
To: Rose in RoseBear
He's so clean, you know ... Legolas, that is.
To: Rose in RoseBear
The Return Of The Shadow is on his desk. That's the one I'm reading right now, Part VI of The History of Middle-Earth, and the first volume dealing with the writing of LOTR.

No, I was looking at all the battle scenes and obsessing over Legolas!Oh.
He's so clean, you know ... Legolas, that is.
Yes... but he's blonde.

You know, I'm having trouble imagining them filming "The Grey Havens". It's a cardinal rule of movies that you can't have a sad ending; and yet, if they remain faithful to the book it can't help but be sad.
Have you ever seen the movie The Iron Giant? The end of that one makes me tear up.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Have you ever seen the movie The Iron Giant? The end of that one makes me tear up.Me, too, Bear, but it is also hopeful at the end. Remember the little beeping thing going off to find the parts?
RoTK doesn't end with the Grey Havens, though that will be an ending for us with regard to some of the characters. I'll need to take some Tylenol before seeing it though, because crying hard gives me SUCH a headache!
I love the part about Sam going back home; THAT is hopeful! That's one of the reasons I'm bummed about not seeing the Scouring of the Shire. All four Hobbits need to be seen as heroes to the Shirefolk in a more immediate way than being one of the 'people in a tale' that Sam mentioned in TTT.

but it is also hopeful at the end.Well, yes. The image of the Giant flying up to meet his fate is very powerful, though...
I guess that is how PJ will soften the sad departure of Frodo, by showing us the happy ending for Sam, coming home to his family.
To: HairOfTheDog
Yes, indeed. You would not believe it unless you saw it, that's one TV-lovin' dog. Just don't expect her to protect you from wraiths or flaming eyeballs or evil rings! She's much more worried about those dangerous hobbits! ;)

I love the part about Sam going back home; THAT is hopeful! Didn't we see a picture somewhere of Sam playing with one of his children in the Shire? Even if not I don't know that The Grey Havens scene has to be just sad. It can be sort of noble and grand as well.
Morning All! Do I dare go outside today?
