Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Wow! Rose stayed awake while you read aloud for 5 hours? I'm impressed!
To: 2Jedismom
Yeah, but did you cry?Well... I started to get choked up a little reading near the end of "The Grey Havens", but I covered for it by taking frequent sips of water.
Don't tell Rose!
To: Overtaxed
Rose stayed awake while you read aloud for 5 hours?LOL, she was sitting at her computer and doing other stuff while I was reading (we're always multitasking!) For instance, for a good deal of the time she had the FOTR SE DVD in her computer and was watching it frame by frame. I'm not sure why exactly... I think she was admiring the CGI work.
To: HairOfTheDog
I had been resisting telling her anything about the end, because I wanted her to read it herself, but she didn't seem to be making any moves in that direction. I figured if she was lurking on the HH she was going to hear the end eventually, so I might as well go ahead and tell her...
Have a good pint!
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
, I had been reading out loud This is very cool. That is how both of my children first heard the tales. I loved it and they loved it too. So I know it must have been a great time for you and Rose!!!

Hey, I used to go through here. Years and years
and years and years ago. I lived in Kennewick, but went to visit in-laws nort of Seattle way back then.
It was probably when you were really young though.

Hi! Welcome back! Sorry I'm late with my welcome...but better late than never, eh? We've missed you!

Speaking of whistle trouble, I had a very depressing weekend, whistley speaking. I accidently left my Feadog over at the house (Dad's, that is) awhile back, and it kind of got commandeered, or in any case, I can't find it now. Sooo...this weekend we were at a music store and they had some whistles, and I got one. It's an Oak D. I got it home, all excited about getting back into learning whistle (I've just been playing stringed instruments lately), and after playing it an hour or so and after my brother tried it and pronounced it not as good as a Sweetone (but nothing is, to him), I noticed the mouthpiece is cracked. Badly. Like all the way up to the hole (what's that called?) My brand new whistle!
I guess it MUST have been dropped at some point, though I can't remember when, and since I don't remember seeing any crack earlier, it must have been after I bought it. It was in a little plastic box (like the Feadog came with) anyway, so I would think it was safe until I got it. But I don't remember dropping it, and neither does my brother! So I'm pretty bummed. I'm thinking of ordering a Sweetone, but unless I buy something else from Elderly, I don't know that it's worth it, as I imagine the shipping would be as much again as the whistle. :-(

A cracked whistle? What a bummer. I spent so much time playing all my D whistles (I've got 3 now) that I haven't practiced the G much this weekend. Oh well....and that's the one the cat has the least problems with!
To: Overtaxed
I want one now! Yesterday morning I was perfectly happy to be going through life completely whistle-less, but now that I've got a broken one, I want one badly!
Trying to think of other things I could buy from Elderly so I could justify the shipping for a whistle...
To: RosieCotton
Hehehe....I waited all that time to buy a Low G to get the Meg D (and a whistle brush.)
To: Overtaxed
So you understand my predicament!
How is the Meg, by the way? I've heard mixed things about them, as I recall.
To: RosieCotton
I'm baking your cookies!! Check your freepmail, I need to know something before I box them up to send.
The house smells delightful. I gave the boys a couple to calm them down about it! LOL
To: RosieCotton
Ummm...it's okay. I think I like my C Meg better. I had to clean the fipple with an emory board when I first got it. If you blew too hard on it, you'd get two tones. I had to do the same thing with my Feadog....maybe it's a plastic thing.
To: Overtaxed
You should try a Susato, if you plan on doing the session thing...they aren't horribly expensive and they are loud enough to hold their own. I have a Susato Kildare that knocks the walls over when I play it and I just love it. Quality control is good too...but it does have a bit of a plastic sound.
My Hoover tunable PVC D is my all time favorite. It's loud too..as loud as my Susato, but takes about half the breath. It runs about $55. Mine was a gift from Mr. Hoover.

Oops! I'm sorry OT! My last post was meant for Rosie!

Okay, I swear I am not making this up.
My sister-in-law called about an hour ago. She and my brother were at their house in Nag's Head over the weekend. I talked to him there after talking to my Mom on Friday night when she called from Tasmania.
Saturday night, my brother went to the new hospital there in Nag's Head with chest pains. They transferred him to Chesapeake Memorial and he's still there awaiting a catherization procedure tomorrow.
So that's the lastest from here...
I told my wife not to answer the phone anymore...
To: 2Jedismom
I'll have to do that some day: All my whistles are on the quiet side. Right now I have vet bills to pay off first. Miss Cat had her annual checkup and she's due to have her teeth cleaned.
To: Corin Stormhands
Great balls of fire! It doesn't rain but pour!
To: Overtaxed
I would definitly use my Hoover if I played in a session...
