Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well, I usually have good experience with the mail! - Course, if it was a bill, THAT would get through. But not something I am holding my breath for! ACCCK!
To: HairOfTheDog
LOL!! How far is this from your house? (approx...no need to give a global satelite postition or anything)
I would love to visit WA during apple season! Or during the bloom time! I bet it's beautiful.
To: HairOfTheDog
Hehehe...those buy one, get one free deals can backfire on you sometimes.

Welcome back, ecurbh! Thanks. Had a very relaxing time in Tucson visiting with my 84- and 90-year-old great aunts. Got to go for a couple hikes in the desert, watched the UofA Wildcats beat Oregon, ate and slept. I had wanted to go down there since I moved here, but work schedule had not allowed it. Hard to make the 4-hour trip when you don't get two days off in a row.
Now I have to get ready to move next weekend.
To: ecurbh
Keep up with us, Ecurb...we miss you when you're not around.
My cup of coffee is gone...alas.
To: 2Jedismom
2JM - "my coffee is gone" You just gotta get a bigger cup. See you later.

Wenatchee is about Lattitude 3 degrees North two degree East of my GPS location. HA! It is about 3 hours from here, just over the most beautiful mountain pass in the state. If you come visiting in April, I would take you to the Apple Blossom Festival!
Wenatchee reminds me of the pine forests in Northern Arizona.

Wenatchee Valley.

*sigh* The coffee must be gone.
To: Overtaxed
Yes.... One cup is just not enough time!
To: HairOfTheDog
She needs one of those hats with a huge cup on either side.

Yeah, what she said! Um...what he said...
Okay, first person to make a dwarf woman joke gets whacked on the side of the head...

But I think the make-up people overdid the white hair in your beard... Unfortunately, make-up had nothing to do with that...

I would love to visit WA during apple season! Or during the bloom time! I bet it's beautiful. Our high school band used to march in the Apple Blossom Festival Parade in Winchester, Virginia (incidentally where Patsy Cline is buried, of course anyone who actually read my Nanowrimo attempt would already know that). ANYWAY, when I was in the 8th grade, the parade officials actually told us we were so bad they wouldn't be inviting us back...

Okay, I need to go before I funkle...
Stormhands family update:
We are heated. Got some emergency fuel on my own and company will come tomorrow. We will also arrange automatic delivery tomorrow. But, this is an old furnace (original with the house), so I'm thinking "heat pump" when it goes...
Jr. is still recovering from surgery and has a lot more pain this time. I think that's because they actually removed a tube and patched an ear drum rather than in previous years just inserting the tube.
Also, his Playstation 2 is acting up. I think we need a new adapter (to go between the cable and the TV and the PS2), but we're not getting it today and he won't be playing again until school's out on Friday, so I'm in no hurry.
We watched Minority Report with Tom Cruise last night. Still trying to decide if we liked it or not. It was better for me after I realized it was supposed to be weird. Would've watched again, but it had to be back to Blockbuster this a.m. (we got it Friday nite).
Going off now to do some work, maybe in front of the TV...hmmm...is there a movie I'd like to see?
To: Corin Stormhands
See ya later Corin!
I am up and around today, gettin' ready to go to the feed store.
To: Corin Stormhands
It's the beard.
To: HairOfTheDog
I've been reading the "regular" Blinky bashing. Hehehe.

Good afternoon, everyone...
Well, I did something last night that I probably shouldn't have, but it was sort of fun while I was doing it...
Rose was catching up on reading the Hobbit Hole, when she came across a message posted by Ruthy mentioning the "fell beast" ridden by the Nazgul. Rose looked at me and said, "Fell beast? I thought it was a dragon." I've mentioned here before that she hasn't read the books; so, I pulled down my copy of ROTK and read the paragraph describing the beast in the "The Battle of the Pelennor Fields" chapter (the one where it attacks Snowmane). Rose kind of went, "Ewww, that's disgusting," and went back to reading; a few minutes later she said, "I hope Eowyn has a good ending in the final movie."
I looked at her and said, "Do you want to hear what happens to her in the end?" She said yes... and so I started reading. I started with the last part of "The Ride of the Rohirrim"; then I skipped back to the last part of "The Siege of Gondor", then ahead again to read the entire chapter "The Battle of Pelennor Fields." After that I read straight through to end of "The Last Debate." Then I skipped forward again to read to her about Faramir and Eowyn from "The Steward and the King." I skipped forward again to begin reading "The Grey Havens", but then realized I'd have to tell her of the end of the Ring, so I went back and read from "Mount Doom," starting where Gollum attacks Sam and Frodo near the end of the trail, and continuing through "The Field of Cormallen" up to where they are rescued by Gandalf and the Eagles. Then I went back to "The Grey Havens" and read through to the end.
By the time I had finished, I had been reading out loud for the better part of five hours. It was 4:00 am, and my throat, not fully recovered from the cold I'd had last week, was raw and scratchy.
But at least now she knows how the story ends! :)
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
I think it was a grand way for her to hear the story! Very good!
Off now into town... meeting a friend for a pint.
See y'all later!
To: Bear_in_RoseBear; g'nad
Yeah, but did you cry? I always cry when I read the sad parts to Steve. For one thing, the story is sad and for another, I'm so grateful to have someone who seems to be actually interested!
Steve is working on the tree fort with the boys out in the shop. I popped myself some corn and am enjoying a quiet moment.
g'nad: We got the owl house done and up in the tree...it's painted "country green" and is the same width as the tree trunk we put it on, so it's huge but not hugely noticable. Filled it with the shavings off cedar trees, to right under the hole. I must say, it's nice.
Now watch a squirrel move in.
