Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Good Morning! I'm back with the cat and having some coffee. It's a nice sunshiney day here so I think I'll work on the timberyard today.
In the timberyard, a pair of pruners in my hand. Making little sticks out of big sticks all day.
Oh life is rather hard in the timberyard. I'll never get it done, so they say.
Isn't it time for coffee in Tulsa?
To: Overtaxed
Might be almost time for coffee in Tulsa!
Will Penny notice if I don't dust the curio cabinet?
To: HairOfTheDog
She'll look at the curio cabinet first!

Ruthy, in response to your posts supporting the valiant nature of Dwarves yesterday, I give you my axe, my oath of loyalty and protection, and this:

Good morning everyone. What's for breakfast?
Heard an interesting little report on the local news here last night, which I thought y'all might be interested in. Apparently, the Alamo Drafthouse (where Rose and I had our second viewing of the movie) paused the evening showing of Two Towers last night, brought up the lights, and lead everyone in a toast to Prof. Tolkien's birthday. I thought that was neat... both that they did it, and that the local news reported on it! They even had a camera there to film the scene...
Have a good day all! Preparing to immerse myself in football!

football still goin' on huh?!It's the playoffs! :)
But, only two games today :(
But, one of them features the Packers, my favorite team! :)
But, the Packers haven't been playing very well, and whenever I get to watch them they lose... :(
Oh well, it promises to be a day of highs and lows...

I've just about made it through all the appendices in my FotR extended edition -- I've loved them all.
I don't know very much about movie making, and these little documentaries are so informative and fascinating. And I'm amazed by how Orlando Bloom looks in "real life". Even my wife is riveted to them, they've been almost as much fun as the movie itself (almost).
My biggest complaint about the first movie (the more rapid pace than the book) is completely blown away by the extended version. The added scences, which are almost all mood or story development, bring the pace back in line with the book's pace.
And watching the movie on DVD is so much more enjoyable than most theatre experiences -- and the quality of the picture and sound are much much better than in theatres. The picture quality is seamlessly perfect and the sound is sooooo goood on my Bose system.

***What did you think of Robert Foster's book?***
I'm very impressed with it; Christopher Tolkien actually quotes it occasionally as an authority.
There is a newer book of that 'encyclopedia' type which I have seen a bit of [I don't remember the author], but it is under severe criticism for inaccuracies.
Foster is of little help as far as the languages and my 'Dictionary', but his research and attention to detail make it indispensible to anyone interested in Tolkien-ese.
Thanks for your interest, and FReegards,
Bob Ireland

Hi mtngrl! I see you've been officially welcomed by HOTD! She'll ping those who are interested from time to time to other threads which may be of interest to the Hobbit Hole dwellers, but mainly we all hang around here at various times of the day just to see who shows up!
You don't have to read all the posts, as I said, but doing so will give you a sense of who everyone is; their personalities etc. It is a fun group! There won't be a test, and there is no time limit, just enjoy!

***Hi! Have you considered self-publishing?***
That is why the 'Dictionary' is posted on-line.
I am too much of a pauper to put it in print, and besides I suspect the copyright issues would be sticky. I need someone who can deal with those thorny legal issues besides my hip pocket.
Thank you for your interest in the project, and FReegards,
Bob Ireland

Are you there, Hair? Why is Jen away, btw?
