Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Good morning!
Well, the comics are almost certainly worth *something* (those baseball cards, too). Finding out what they're worth is the problem...
Unfortunately, I don't have a current guidebook of prices, so I can't tell you offhand. But, we have a trip to our local comic shop scheduled for later this afternoon, and I'll be able to get a guide there (I've been needing one!) What I'll need to know about the comic books to look them up, once I have a guide, will be any issue numbers, the full titles, etc. You don't necessarily need to open up the bags, but if you have any that are open (or comics that are unbagged) a look at the indicia (the little block of printing usually at the bottom of the first page) will help to identify them.
Whatever you do, don't put them up on eBay until you know what they're worth! You don't want to be offering an expensive comic for $1 or something... ;)

They very well might be connected.
If he is tied up and not liking it, the first thing he will try is crying.... the next would be escape.
What can you tell about how well he was cared for? - How is his weight, hydration, are his nails clipped? Is he clean or full of fleas?
Smeagol would get used to him eventually.

No...where's yer catfish?
To: Wneighbor
Well...I haven't been comfortable doing anything bad in the past few months.

Thought you'd gone cat-shaving!
It's a lovely day here. My parents took the boys garage sale-ing. We might go biking this afternoon, except that I will without a doubt embarrass myself in front of my parents by being a clutzy weakling.

One of the best "low-rent" meals I ever had was in what I'd call a "po-dunk" restaurant near Travis Lake in Texas (late 80's). Place where you sat a picnic table and they served you this fantastic catfish. It was soooooo good. Hair, Ivar's was never as good as this catfish...I swear.
As you'd drive along the rural areas you'd see these massive catfish heads on the barb-wire fences where the good ol' boys had hung them to filet the fish. They get huge.
Really fine tasting fish, done the way they do it in Texas, anyway.

Well, ours was certainly delicious this morning! I instructed Steve all the way through the process of stripping the skin off and then frying it in cornmeal. He asked me "Do we even HAVE any cornmeal?" to which I replied "What self-respecting southern woman would be without a bag of cornmeal!"
Steve is from Northern Minnesota and I think I'm still a bit of a novelty to him!

except that I will without a doubt... Jenb! What kind of a thing to say is that? Oh dear! :~(
I am leaving soon.... gotta shave my legs. Decided to wear shorts today, so I know all about self-doubt, I just don't want to hear it!
To: 2Jedismom
Not self-rising cornmeal, I hope! :)

2J; yes we did, looks like skillet sized to me. Those rainbows better watch out when you hit the Ozarks streams.
Hmmmm. catfish, hush puppies, cole slaw, okra and ice tea. The breakfast or dinner or supper of champions.

It's not self-doubt! I never grew out of that awkward stage... still trip over my own feet... and I have been a couch potato for years while my mother (!) has been buffing up.

I pity the fool who breaks in in the dark of night: he's liable to trip on something and break his neck!Best burglar alarm I could think of!!
To: JenB
Hmmm.... Well, I still didn't like it!
OK - My legs are shaved and I am ready!
See you later Jen, have a good day! I may check in fromt he beach house..... least long enough to post the pics of the cat shaving!
(I am seeing a "shave it" trend in my posts lately)
To: HairOfTheDog
Yes! Post the pics!
Waiting for parents to return so we can go...

I put all the stuff in my soup pot, cover with plenty of water - nothing else - and bring it to a boil pretty fast. Then turn the water off and drain all that water off. Rinse the stuff again in cool water and leave it draining in a colander or something. (My friend in Venezuela taught me to do this with anything using black beans) Is this supposed to reduce the, ahem, gas-producing properties of the beans. And why not the black beans?
I haven't tried making the bean soup in my slow cooker yet, but I know it would be great. I'll scrounge up my recipe and send it. I made the mistake once of using a can or Ro-Tel tomatoes instead of just plain old canned, diced ones. The stuff was so hot I couldn't eat it! SSQ liked it ok, but I ended up giving the bulk of it to a friend who lived alone so didn't do that kind of cooking, and he loved HOT foods.

I think I'm still a bit of a novelty to him! Nothing wrong with that.
To: JenB
OK - And I am really gone now...
