Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

"God I wish I had a dwarf here with me who would take care of this." Sorry I wasn't there to help. I was enduring a kid of my own...
To: JenB
Oh, right.. LDS. Isn't that an illegal substance?Only if you're Captain Kirk! (Star Trek IV reference!)
To: HairOfTheDog
What a lazy, sleepy Hobbit Hole! Oh puh-leez...by the time you gots here, I was already on the way to pick up Jr's anti-pain-in-the-@$$ medicine and to buy him a swimsuit because yes, once they broke the ice layer on the pool, we had about a dozen kids actually go swimming today...
To: Sam Cree
Glad I'm not 18 any more. But I would settle for 40.Oh but Sam, after 50 you can say whatever you want, and folks who don't like it will just think you're an old fart anyway! I'll be joining the old fart club soon, as well as the Purple Hat Society!!

I'm one of those that wants to spend more time than just the weekendThe kids and I are going to be there for several days, as well. We're thinking of taking the train down to FL!
To: ksen
We have the castle from 1/9-1/16Woo Hoo!! We'll start thinking of travel plans!
To: Lil'freeper
Thanks for the comments re: The Matrix. We're pretty well decided that we won't be taking Jr. to see it. I may wait for the DVD myself.
To: 2Jedismom
Yes, Joshua will be going to preschoolIs this a pre-school run by your Church?
To: Corin Stormhands
When I woke up at the keyboard and couldn't figger out what I was talkin' about, I went to bed. Did you have to clean up drool off the keyboard? ;o)

Reading your kids in church comment made me think... that tends to happen when kids are allowed to sit with their friends in church. Yeah, most of these kids grew up in children's church. And we have one section of the balcony where the youth sort of congregate. Jr. started sitting there because Mom and I were both in the choir. What annoyed me was that these kids knew better.

Elizabeth is starting to sit with in the teen section. She does pretty well because she knows I spy on her and if I catch her goofing off during the sermon that she will be sitting with us.
My pet peeve is when kids get up to go to the bathroom or get a drink during the sermon. I tell mine that once Pastor starts preaching that drink/bathroom breaks are over. They still try to get me to let them go, but I just tell them they have to hold it. ;^)
I'm a baaaaaaaaaad parent. ;^D

The youth pastor and wife have big sticks like Hair has. One of the things our youth pastor has dealt with has been a huge influx of new kids in the past year. Last March, two high school senior boys, one from our church, one from a neighbor church were killed in a car wreck on their way to a young life Bible study.
It has a tremendous impact on the community. These guys were very committed Christians, active in the church, missions trips, etc. The Wednesday after they were killed on Monday there was a prayer/communion service at our church. Over 1,200 kids showed up.
There's more, but the result has been that our senior youth group went from having about 150 on Wednesday's to about 300 in just a couple of weeks.
What our youth pastor said to the congregation was "remember, these are kids who didn't grow up in church." They won't look like "our" kids. They won't talk like "our" kids, etc.
So, I can tolerate that. But the kids in question that I shushed had grown up in our church and I'd chaperoned them with kid's choir. They had been learned better.

Yes, it's LDS for "Latter Day Saints"

Reverend Mother, I have funkled.

A number of you may not like this, but my pet peeve, is (and our church does it, so I am glad my children are raised, out on their own), having the teens sit in a group at all. Family is more important then teen groups. They are there as a family to worship God, not socialize, it should be treated as such.
But of course I am one of those intolerant fundies:)
Shoot, my kids, and their spouses still sit with Mack and I.
I know some people who told me they had a family day, went to the movies together, but the kids would not sit with them, what kind of family day. I told them I would be damned before I paid their way in and have them refuse to sit with me. They don't talk much to me anymore. Oh well, no one likes the truth.

All in all it was a nice day today. Cloudy, in the sixties and no nasty flies and such buzzing around. I got the tomatoes in, and the dwarf blue corn (I just
have to try it) and peanuts in. And it's supposed to rain most of the week. Woo Hoo!
Now ....what's for dinner?
To: Corin Stormhands
Heee... that's the best of the Trek movies! I like Spock. Doesn't seem like someone recovering from an LDS problem, does he?
