The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Morning... we're off to church in a bit too. Apparently we're ditching Sunday School. I'll be around this afternoon because my oxen are not in a ditch.

I sort of suspected as much about sending the packages. I get into the same thing with some missions organizations I work with. I was actually really glad when you said we could put our addresses in though in case someone wanted a contact. Sometimes international organizations have us only use a P.O. Box or church address for personal safety. (I had a P.O. Box before I moved to Wichita Falls just for that but I haven't got one here.)

Okay, I'm going to read on before I funkle with my next question.

Steve went to bed a few minutes ago...can you tell? If it hadn't been for Osage, I woulda funkled!

I should have stayed over here by the computer just a bit longer and we could have carried on for a good while. :-) I went over on the couch and watched part of Saturday Night Live with Myranda. Did anybody see it? The opening was a parody of Clinton and Dole and their little head to head debates now. I practically screamed when the actor playing Dole started out by addressing the Clinton guy "Bill, you ignorrant slut." I was perfect, just perfect. And I felt 18 again.

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;"

A good description of the Democratic Party.

After they left, Steve and I just stood there and stared at each other for...oh...10 seconds?

[wink wink]

Good morning all!

The Chief of Tacoma Police Dept shot his wife and then himself in the parking lot of the pub my brother (and I) hang out at when in Gig Harbor. The wife has made it so far, she is still alive. Guy my brother knows who works at the pub ran out and helped hold pressure on her head. She was talking afterwards.

Apparently they were split up, and switching kids from a visitation, and he shot her and then himself within seconds, while the kids watched and screamed.

Unbelievably bizarre. I understand that divorces can destroy people, but this guy wasn't destroyed yet. Although a few reports of bad behavior had been released to the media from the divorce, he was chief in good standing. This is the behavior of people who have *lost* everything, not a first strike. Very strange.

"and rape and pillage and ruin the morals of our children"

Yes, true. I have been thinking about that some too, especially since I have 2 children in college, one exactly Jen's age. Even though I think that well brought up kids will resist the deluge of socialist philosophy that is dumped on them by academia, I still regard it as a real problem. I wonder if it is even curable, in spite of the fact that most of the academic leftists are paid, at least in part, with our tax dollars.

I can just see the national outcry in the media if any effort is made to get rid of even one of them.

And they seem to hold major positions in mainstream religion, for that matter.

I didn't catch what was going on about the communion either, did you just convert to a new denomination?

I saw that on the news last night. They didn't give the divorce/separation info. I kind of figured though. I've been involved in divorce recovery ministry for a few years. In this, people don't have to be destroyed yet to become insane.

Whole situation is HORRIBLE but the extremity is that the kids witnessed this. Gee I hope there is support somewhere in the family - grandparents, aunts or uncles. Those kids really need people they know and love NOW.

Hi Hair, that is a tragedy. Hope she will survive.

I guess there will be no shortage of bar conversation subjects for a few months.

Good morning.

Ditto on the payday. And I only get paid once a month so it will HAVE to wait 4 me.

Really beyond bizarre that he would do it in front of the kids, and where he would be abandoning them in a mall a parking lot. Shooting himself was not an afterthought, the shots were reportedly only a few seconds apart.

The children are with a set of grandparents, (not sure which 'side'). Unknown whether the mother will recover enough to parent. That she was talking afterwards is hopeful, but the damage from head injuries comes from the swelling later, so who knows.

No Sam, I helped a friend from work prepare a celebration honoring her son's first communion. Her family all drove several hours to get here for the event and her husband is currently deployed so she was getting very frazzled about preparations. Since her family and in-laws came from so far off she wanted to serve a good dinner afterwards. I cooked a good bit of food and helped get the room ready for the dinner. Then, she specifically said she wanted me to attend the function as well. The southern part kicked in Friday night and I suddenly realized I did not know the correct social amenities for this denomination and ran to the Hobbit Hole for guidance. LOL

It was really good. And I think I went from having a co-worker that I really like and enjoy to having a friend that's a lot of fun.

Oh, that sounds like lots of fun. Good job, Wneighbor.

It's pretty amazing the things we can figure out for each other here in our Hole, there is actually a pretty wide range of knowledge in our little group.

1st communion is important, I remember mine still.

Well, this one's on my prayer list now. The news last night did NOT say she was still alive. Of course it didn't mention the kids either. (They should give news so that praying people would know how to pray.)

I have a funny story about my first meeting being the divorce recovery minister for my old church that I'll tell ya'll sometimes. Let's just say that God did not call me into ministry because I'm such a great minister - but because I can roll with the punches and then laugh at them later. The more demented the occurrence the more I laugh.

Okay, so are you someone I was looking for too? Catholic maybe? I don't know there may be other denominations with this ceremony. You should see some of my earlier posts. You might get a chuckle.

And I'll go ahead and confess, I already told SuziQ in a freepmail. I enjoyed the service very much but the church Myranda and I attend is a denomination with a pentecostal worship style. So, we respond openly and often during messages. Well, I felt very comfortable in the service and people were responding often although I did not know what the proper responses were, and once - without thinking - by habit - when a point was reached that was obvious that the congregation was supposed to respond I just out of habit said, "Thank you Jesus." it was the wrong words. I don't think anybody heard me but Myranda and the lady in front of us. Myranda looked at me like - Mooo---oommmm. The lady in front turned but just like surprised not offended - well I hope not.

A healthy trait in the demented-occurance business!

Heh... This is highly inappropriate humor, but my brother said this morning that someone in the bar last night said that "behind every murder/suicide are two people that are impossible to get along with". [wicked lol]

For your prayer list, her name is Crystal Brame. The kids may be 8-10 years old, so they are old enough to be very aware and traumatized by what they have seen. She was flown to Harborview Hospital in Seattle.
