The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

The image thing, at least according to what I understand, has nothing to do with appearance - "God is a spirit and does not have a body as we do" - and everything to do with mind and soul.

Yeah, that would be my worry, unexpected danger. Too much like looking for trouble.

I was having a discussion with boris about the possibilities of life elsewhere the other day, he considers that it is quite rare. Apparently the guy is a scientist, involved somehow in space, interesting the folks one can "meet" on this forum.

Rained all day here, unusual, as we are at the height of the dry season. Usually the Everglades are on fire by now, yet I smell no smoke, don't think there is any fire out there, if there was, it is surely out now.

Hello, I'm back for the evening. My first communion adventure went well.

Maybe we could have the company just do the shipping! That way we don't have to do the shipping to 2J, then have her box them up to send them to the Chaplain. I don't know if there's a box size issue, but it's not like this would be going out into the field; it's going to a base, right?

Suzi, I agree about that shipping but I didn't know whether we could do that or not because of the current rules about who can or cannot send packages. I suppose 2J would know.

I had a nice nap. I don't think I've made it all the way through that movie since college.

Illbay was arguing with multiple people and he made some very crude, and in one case, racist remarks. I don't know if he's gone for good or just suspended.

G'nite again.

They've asked that only friends and family send care packages.

In every package I've sent, I've put all of the contributors names and addresses on little cards. In this way, if someone contacts you, then you would be able to respond and would have the address. I don't give the address that I have out. I leave the ball in their court, so to speak.

I wouldn't feel comfortable giving out the Chaplains address, even to a mail order place. And many mail order places won't do APO addresses anyway, because of the customs requirements involved. You know I have to fill out those forms that go in plastic on the front of each package, telling the contents and the cost.

I also have to use a special return address...I am not to use my own return address...I have to use one the Chaplain gave me. My name and address is not anywhere on the outside of the package.

So although I hate it that some people are having to pay shipping twice...I don't know any other way to do it...

BTW, the guy that did the tribute contacted me...he's going to send me one to pass on to the troops!

We may express ourselves differently, but we dwarves recognize and honor the valour of our men and women defending this country. Blather on friend...

Well said. I read the letter to Steve (who's about as Dwarvish as they get) and he found it very emotional.

I'm so proud of all of you.

I was absolutely blown away by it.

I knew you would be! Very thrilling.

2J, please continue your wonderful work

I will...as long as I have one single buck given toward getting these guys something, I'll do it.

After getting this letter today, I've just beamed all day. I'm so proud to have Companions such as the ones in the Hole.

2JM: Thanks so much for posting the RC's letter; we're really touched by the words he pens to us via the Hole.

It is truly amazing how so many individuals, brought together by Tolkein, Jackson and Robinson can reach out to a group of heroes halfway around the world. This is quite a story in itself.

Apparently Ecurb thinks so too and is trying to document some of it.

I'm just so tickled!

Neat. I think we should do another round of goodies!

I just saw this as I was re-reading the thread! I'm sorry I didn't respond, but Steve was getting really grouchy and I was having to read the thread really quick.

I had a feeling the "goodies" were going to be the best part. People always love a treat.

My dad came over to see how our reconstruction work was going on the outside of the house. Matthew and Joshua ran up to him and said "Can we go back to your house with you?" My dad said "Sure!" and off they went.

After they left, Steve and I just stood there and stared at each other for...oh...10 seconds?

:-)

I looked up the scripture that the chaplain said he had on his heart in the email, in case anyone is interested...

John 10:9-11

(9)" I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.
(10)"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
(11)"I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep."

That's such a coincidence. I just bought a New Testament today and that is the passage I read this evening. It was $1.97. How could I not buy it? LOL

I also bought a T-shirt for $6.97. Get the idea that I'm cheap? I just like to maximize my purchasing power. They are trying to get over a million people to pray for the president and our troops. How could I not buy it?

Anyone who is interested can get them at a Family Chritian store.

Mornin' all. Getting ready to take Jr. to Sunday School. We'll join him for second service.

This afternoon I'll probably work in the garage and in the yard. I know it's Sunday, but the way my yard looks is about as close as I'll ever get to having my oxen in a ditch.

See you later.
