1st communion is important, I remember mine still.

Okay, so are you someone I was looking for too? Catholic maybe? I don't know there may be other denominations with this ceremony. You should see some of my earlier posts. You might get a chuckle.

And I'll go ahead and confess, I already told SuziQ in a freepmail. I enjoyed the service very much but the church Myranda and I attend is a denomination with a pentecostal worship style. So, we respond openly and often during messages. Well, I felt very comfortable in the service and people were responding often although I did not know what the proper responses were, and once - without thinking - by habit - when a point was reached that was obvious that the congregation was supposed to respond I just out of habit said, "Thank you Jesus." it was the wrong words. I don't think anybody heard me but Myranda and the lady in front of us. Myranda looked at me like - Mooo---oommmm. The lady in front turned but just like surprised not offended - well I hope not.

I was brought up Episcopalian, which is very similar to Catholicism (the main difference, and the reason Henry VIII founded it, is that it doesn't recognize Papal authority) and has communion and bishops and all that, but fell in love with and married a Jewish girl I met in college. Now that was a seriesly long time ago.

I am not very religious, Wneighbor, at least not in a traditional sense, so I have just gone along with Jeanne's wishes and lived the Jewish life for the last 29 years, including bringing up the kids that way. Christianiy and Judaism are pretty similar in many ways anyhow.

Yeah, the congregational responses are usually different, though sometimes similar. I have noticed in a black baptist church there are quite a few "Amen's" whenever someone agrees with the pastor's point.

I'm going to check back for your posts on the subject.

I doubt she was offended. It being Texas and all, she was probably familiar with the concept of folks 'witnessing' during worship. I'm a cradle Catholic, but we got involved with a Charismatic group when we lived in NJ. WOW! The Masses were awesome, folks praising and praying, and the music sounded as though the roof was gonna come off the Church! Very unusual for the Northeast, I can tell you! And there are some times in Mass now when the Priest will make a good point in his homily, and I'll find myself saying softly "Yes, Lord!"

A lot of it is in where you are raised. Both SSQ and I were born and reared in MS, and we are very familiar with other Churches; some of our family members are in some of them. My Daddy's family is all Baptist, but he converted when my oldest sister was 11, after he and Mama had been married about 15 yrs. Mama always said he was a better Catholic than she'd ever be! But we know about the praising out loud type of worship, and are comfortable with it; not many up here in MA would be.
