The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I agree it is in the faces. Some have *it*, and some not so much. You and I have the same taste!

Actually I think his teachers just want legible. No, beyond that, they'd just like him to do the work and turn it in.

We actually can push for some accommodations in that regard if we need to. But I don't want to do that if there is hope to help his handwriting improve.

Some of it I recognize as just his impatience. But his work is messy, he doesn't stay on one line, etc.

I do the block printing too, but I adapted that on my own.

Pffft! :)

:-) Well, I only would give Bear one kiss at a time occasionally. If she did something really really really hugable she might get 2. She got more cheetos than chocolate for the reason Hair described. I didn't remember exactly what the deal was but a vet had explained it to me years and years ago.

So, you can have 2 M&M's. okay?

Are you talking about bead stringing and making necklaces, earrings and such? Or are you talking about bead WEAVING where you work on a loom? For either one, if you want to save money, check out Fire Mountain Gems . I've ordered lots of stuff from them. It's not a wholesale place, so anyone can order. They have lovely stuff, and it is pretty much WYSIWYG from their catalog or online. I think if you go online, you could also order a regular catalog just to have it for reference. There is good info in it about bead sizes, how many of which size beads are strung on the typical 16" string that is sold, etc.

But, in all fairness I must warn you, it can become an obsession!!

I don't know if it has anything to do with this or not. But, the thing about writing that frustrates me is that I can't write fast enough and I forget what I'm trying to write because I can't get it on paper and that really creates frustration. This greatly affected my school work. I can empathize with the impatience part. Disciplining myself in school to learn drafting is the only thing that made me letter well.

and when I was a secretary I was typing between 100 and 120 WPM, now, I'm slower but this is much better for me.

I really enjoyed it and I think I may have to rent it so I can see the whole thing.

"Blackhawk Down" was done well. Another one you might check out if you haven't seen it yet is "Rules of Engagement". It'll make you want to go the Dept of State and SLAP somebody!! It vindicates Newt Gingrich's comments this week !!

two hours of street fighting...representing many, many more hours as things actually occurred

When I saw it, I just couldn't get over the 'do-rags' on the heads of the Somali fighters!! Somehow, that just seemed incongruous to me. Made it look like they were fighting in South Central LA!

You know, I didn't notice that, but they are! - Looks like they are standing in waist-deep water!
