Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

A friend of mine's husband teaches it...Latina Christiana or something like that.

I'm gonna start that with our kids over the summer. We'll do "English from the Roots Up" at the same time. It teaches 63 Latin and 37 Greek roots and their derivatives. We started it a while ago, but put it aside. We're gonna pick it up again probably in June. We'll do some intensive Language Arts stuff over the summer;Grammar, Writing, & Vocab.

Ha! When we lived in D.C. there was a group of women from our church who lived in what was referred to at "Trout House."

Seems another college friend (male, also from our church) who used to rate women on the "fish system." I don't remember all the ratings but they went from catfish to trout, with trout being the top rating. Thus, all the women in that house were referred to as "trout," and the "Trout House" was born.

Excellent advice!! I'm thirtymumble, and I took Latin in high school...for my part I was more interested in Roman CULTURE than language, but once I got to high school, going into Spanish was a cinch...practically boring. Funny this subject should come up, because I was in Barnes & Noble the other day, and picked up two books off their reduced rack...both by the same author : Peter Jones "Learn Ancient Greek : A Lively introduction to reading the language" and "Learn Latin : (ditto)"

Glancing through, they look like Latin/Ancient Greek made fun and I bought them with the hopes of getting my daughter interested in learning it. They younger they are the better. I had focussing problems in my later days in school, and so I dont retain as much as I should have. But I learned ever so much in spite of it.

I'm out whistle shopping again....looking for F and Bb whistles. Do you have any Generation whistles? Are they any good? The Whistle Shop has them priced cheaper than Elderly.

For you it's fiddle bows. For me it's a new lawn mower and yard vacuum...we all have our favorite "toys."

I may not get to mine since tomorrow its Jrs' birthday. I think we've finally decided to buy him a new bat, but not the $150 one he wants...

I'm not the one you asked, but...

I have one Generation, and there are a couple more kicking around out at The House...what we've found is that some are good, some are horrible: out of tune and sqeaky and whatnot. They seem to be less consistant than, say, Clarkes. Maybe we've just had bad luck, though.

Anyone here into beading?? I will be starting up a new hobby soon : working with beads and semi precious stone. There is a bead shop not far from my house that has these WONDERFUL beads and stuff...am a bit worried because the interest is tottering on the edge of a new obsession...and it can get quite pricey. But I have been having so much fun on ebay buying up semi-precious stone chips etc.

They are very similar to Feadog's. Cylindrical (sp?) bore.

I like them...I have heard it said on C and F that the brass ones with the red mouth pieces are the best. I agree. I have a C nickel and it just sounds different. Like maybe the nickel coating keeps it from vibrating the same or something. Hard to explain.

I'll be out for the better part of the morning since I have to take poor Alyson to the pediatrician for her immunizations. I am NOT looking forward to it AT ALL!!!

Enough chit-chat...on to breakfast!!

I've gone back to steaks today in honor of ecurbh. T-bones are fried along with either fried or scrambled eggs (let me know which you want). 9 platters of bacon, fried ham and sausage patties are on the table. There's a pot of sausage gravy on the stove next to a pot of grits. OT, your hash browns are on the hot plate. Coffee is brewed and juices are chilled! ENJOY!
