The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

LOL! If I have a bonfire, I'd probably take the whole neighborhood with me.

Well....they grow in the shade and so far the deer haven't been eating them.

I don't think there'd be any happy people at that party.

Hey Corin, I've had an Invisible Fence here for over 10 years, so I could make plenty of comments on it, if you want me to. I haven't read the back posts yet, though, have been hanging out in Key Largo last 24 hrs, instead of helping ksen.

Oh! regarding plants, our mangos ought to be starting soon, the key limes finished 'til next year. Bananas some time soon, no later. Guavas, I think, but it's a struggle to get those before the squirrels.

mmmm...Key Largo....sigh...

My biggest concern Sam is whether or not he'll try to bolt once he's trained. I'm told he won't.

I would actually prefer to just fence in the backyard and leave it at that, but we're concerned that if my m-i-l is here alone, he might run out the front door. I can stop him from that, but she couldn't.

He doesn't try that much anymore (since the one time I carried him back from the bus stop), but you never know. He's pretty good though once he's learned something (except for staying off the couch).

Corin, it really depends on the dog. We have a golden retriever and it took ages to get him trained. He'd just run through... we upped the power to almost-rottweiler setting and he finally got the point.

Now, we can even let him out without the collar and he doesn't scamper.

Welcome to the hobbit hole Kitsune-chan!

LOL!! That was ME telling 2J about the Kool Aid ice cubes! My daughter had signed in and hadn't logged off, so the response came up under her screen name. I told you her screen name was Japanese, but didn't know what it was. So now y'all know!

It worked on my lab very well, she was completely convinced by the system, but IMO, "Invisible Fence" has very low standards for their franchisees.

My stray hound goes through it whenever she pleases, but I know better than to try to get the company to help with that, they just won't feel like it, and also, my experience tells me that it's probably beyond their ability.

Maybe "Dogwatch" could be better?

I burned my finger again! A different finger, and it hurts like blazes, so it must not be as deep...but the same thing...my hot pad I was holding the pizza dish with slipped and I bonked my finger on the grill in the oven! YOWCH!

Last time, it hurt for just a split second but then stopped and shrivelled all up. This time it's just white, with a red border. Hurts much worse, but I don't think it's as deep.

Twice now, I've burned myself when my hot pad slips...
