The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I - uh, don't think I want my weight to be common knowledge

We could do a weekly weigh in chat in the Yahoo chat room. Nobody needs to know our starting weights, we can just call it X, and the first week, say X -1 or whatever, then each successive week just say what we lost!

I'm home! It went great! At least 3000 people showed up, I think! They had it set up for one side of the stadium and they had to open up the other side for overflow and it was about a third full!

There were about 20 fly-overs! It was fantastic. And there were troops there, with Hummers, which I just really loved. We got to take our pictures with them and I'll post them here in a while. The crowd was a sea of flags. It was great!

I usually skip lunch and have a sensible dinner.

Ruthy, you'd do better following the Hobbit model and have several small meals each day. When you skip meals, you make you body go into 'starvation mode', and it hangs on to all the fat in your body in case your body needs it later on for fuel. When you eater several small meals, your metabolism is increased and burns calories and fat more efficiently.

Here is a picture! The jedis and I, with a soldier, by a Hummer! You can get a glimpse of the crowd, and that's just the beginning, before the rally even started...it filled completely up and overflowed. It was great!

Hullo all!

My brother was here over night and today, so I have been visiting with him... Quiet Sunday around here anyhow!

Cool that you went to a rally 2J! - We had one in Seattle too, but Seattle is just such a horrid place to go to! - Shameful of me.

SuziQ - I am not sure the hobbit model is frequent 'small' meals!

I have been eating more meat instead of cereal today (but I still 'have' to have bread with it :~\.... ) At least I bought good whole grain bread instead of white, and bought 1% milk. (I just simply can't stand non-fat yet) - Baby steps.

It was a whole lot of fun. Brutal cold...maybe 35 degrees? But we were really bundled up and that navy pea jacket I'm wearing is the warmest thing ever.

I can't get over the turn out!

2J, it's been cold for so long that 35 degrees sounds warm. You must have some interesting weather!

Can I join in on this? I've lost quite a bit of weight so far, but I still have a bit more to lose, and seem to have lost my momentum.

It would be fun, and we can all look forward to showing our new selves off at Entmoot! ;)

Did they even mention the Seattle rally on the news? I was looking for it last night, and all they seemed to cover was the much smaller rally in Arlington.

I even live in Seattle and didn't have time to join in...I think I found out about it at 11 o'clock that morning. That always seems to happen to me!

Are there reports on how many people showed up for the Seattle one?

The more, the merrier!

Hobbits, I think, like to do anything in large happy groups. Losing weight is no different, even if it is distinctly un-hobbitlike!

It wasn't too bad for a long time, because we were dressed for it...long johns and layers of clothes. But my feet did get cold right at the end. It was two hours long.

I haven't seen any coverage of the Seattle rally, but I haven't been watching the local news....

Hullo Penny!

Watching the news is never a good thing...

I'm boiling some chicken breasts for a nice chicken salad. I'll be eating it on romaine lettuce for lunches this week... yum!

Yum!

I was hoping to make some ground beef with taco seasonings too. But I can't find the beef.

Cool! I've been reading about the patriotic rallies this weekend and it seems like they're getting bigger while the anti-war rallies are getting smaller. Did you see the thread about the one they had in S. Korea? 300,000 to 500,000!

Where's the Beef?

My guess is Jen that you're too young to remember that.

I blew off the diet yesterday and today, so I've gotta grill some chicken myself in a few to get back on it tomorrow.

Quiet day here. Church this a.m., then we picked up Jr. from the youth retreat. Napped this afternoon. Now need to get up and (groan) pay some bills. I'd rather take another nap.

2J: Good job on the rally! I opted not to go to D.C. yesterday. It's a two-hour trip, and I just wasn't up for the investment yesterday. Selfish of me, I guess.

OT: My daffodils are coming up too! Today was a really nice spring-type day. Sun was out, it warmed up. A nice change to what we've been having lately.

It was still too wet to plant anything so I worked in my lumberyard. I think I'll get a woodstove. :)
